I like the illo, i just don't get the concept.

Perhaps it's just a British thing. Topiary is the "art" of cutting hedges and trees into particular shapes and the most commonly done, apart from geometrical stuff, is chicken shapes, probably because you can do it from only one tree or bush. Although I have seen a steam train and a racehorse done the same way but the racehorse was made from 4 plants.
I knew I was going to end up having to explain it.

No. If it was Col. Sanders, it wouldn't have a shovel and a coffee mug.
In fact, if it was Col. Sanders, the chickens would be dipping chunks of him in some sort of God-awful spice combination, deep-frying them, putting them in a paper bucket and selling them to some other, particularly stupid chickens.

i think it's funny and well drawn, but the problem is that in the USA, most topiary isn't in chicken shapes, so it's a little confusing.

Hahahahahahaha.... funny!! Its not confusing, they are cutting it into a person shape. Whatever animal you use, its still funny. If youre too stupid to get it, I wonder how you managed to get onto the net.

The concept is lost on the international audience, but the illo is beautiful. I hope this doesn't discourage you from submitting in the future.

As a designer, it's for me to fit in with what the community wants; I'd already considered that this may not translate.
