I dig this but aren't the cards designs at the very least copyrighted illustrations.
fool.gif I am not sure removing the dog and changing the color counts as a unique illustration. I found that in about 2 minutes of Google searching and I am fairly certain I have see the other cards as well. If it is all your work or you got the images from royalty free stock art books my sincerest apologies. |

I was just going to say this is amazing and $5 but I'm concerned about the tarot copyright. Even if they are okay, I would prefer it if you hand drawn them yourself.

classicoke on Nov 29 '07 notice how all the art is either 4 or 8 px? i did hand drawn them myself. still i made em as true to the original as i could cause it is important to instantly recognize them the tarot. it took about 4-6 hours to draw each card. 4 hours for the tower as it gave me more room to experiment and longer for the rest.
also, the original drawings are over a 100 years old and therefore public domain. |

Your first three cards are only very slightly alternated versions from the rider-waite tarot deck, which is THE most known tarot deck around - the fool, three of hearts and the knight of cups. Renaming them and changing them slightly like adding the flower to the horses mouth and changing the cup to a lance as in your "the knight" is good, but I really think you should change them a bit further.
Your tower and death, on the other hand, I didn't recognize, and the death especially has the trad. tarot death position from many decks but is still different enough from them to pass as your own work. But your illustration is great! I love Dulcinea the hissing cat. |

Right, true to the original as you said. Are you sure the rider-waite deck is over a 100 yrs old, and there are no organisations or family who hold the rights, as it's still a very popular deck and sells well? It may be though, I'm not sure.
And Rider-waite is the most known deck but it's not the first or oldest or "rightest", if that's what you meant by "the tarot". Whereas the "classic" or "marseilles" decks are, to my understaning, indeed old enough to be copyright-free. But I could be wrong. |

also i changed the "quest card" quite alot to make it richer while still staying true to the style. perhaps thats why you didnt notice. it doesnt matter which deck is "most tarot". what matters is that people understand and recognize what im trying to communicate. seems i have succeded =) |

I understand that you illustrate the story of the Man of La Mancha using the lay man understanding of the images of these 5 cards. That is nice. However anyone who can read tarot will be uncomfortable with the real message of these cards. The Tower is probably one of the worst if not the darkest card in the deck. Being superstitious, I would not want that card to be close to me under any circumstances let along wearing it on my chest. But I’m just an old full. (by the way, the full is a somewhat good card). This long note does not mean that I do not like the design; I just would not wear it

The nice thing about Tarot is every card has more than one interpretation. Death itself (or teh reaper in this case) is usually a quite positive card....it all depends on how the cards are being used. They are merely a voice for your own higher consciousness, so the meanings are quite malleable from person to person. But this shirt supercedes all of that seeing as how it is a story being told, and as that, it works beautifully! I hope you get printed! 5 and buy |

Death and The Tower *are* powerful cards, but not necessarily dark. Growth comes from change and change can sometimes be painful and difficult. This is a great design.
