currently taking a class on "educating native american youth" so totally sensitive to the "war paint" and feathers on napoleon.. as would a native american who sees this. love the artwork tho.

Leftist Jesuit on Dec 04 '07 Hmm, I hope this isn't offensive to anyone. It certainly wasn't my intention. It springs mostly from an interest in combining decorative, symbolic elements of two very different cultures to get a surprising visual product.

and the final product turned out well. i like the contrast between the "war paint" colors and Napoleon. it's just I've learned that Native Americans use paints and feathers for very specific, ceremonial, sometimes sacred reasons so that aspect of the t-shirt jumped out at me.. we can probably pick at tshirts and find smthing offensive about it for any given group of people..

I obviously wouldn't want to abuse anyone's sacred symbols and though I used a more iconic, non-specific paint and feathers design, I think I was drawn to those things exactly because they do have important cultural significance in the same way that Napoleon's medals and the trappings of his uniform do. It's the interaction between those sets of elements which I find interesting. Anyhow, I'm glad you like design overall and thanks again for the comments!
