I ♥ New York - This T-Shirt is Open Source SoftWear. Get to know the metrogeek in yourself by displaying your love of New York and ASCII at the same time. Impress your friends. Be a hit at parties. Attract that geek of the opposite sex on the other side of the bar.

These kinda shirts are like the geeky modern day equivalent of those coca-cola or pepsi shirts in spanish or hebrew! They remind me of stuff over at thinkgeek.com, and don't really need that smaller type to explain the joke cause it's the kind of thing you'll either get or not. May i suggest the "less than 3" sign instead of the uber computer-geek super-secret language to open up the shirt to more people? Fun take on an old stand-by tho.

This is a cool idea, but there's already an I

Oops... there's already an I <3 New York t-shirt on Threadless so I don't know how eager they'd be to print another.

wasn't there a copyright issue with the other one? I thought I saw that on another sub...

Use a slab serif for a parody

no, theangeli, you are the best. :) Monkey, the correct font is courier. Take a look.

I think it would be better with the ♥ instead since thats what most are familiar with

agreed.

no, you just don't get it...this is genius.

No &hearts! The hardcoreness of an iso code is what makes this shirt. I think you should remove the "open source softwear" bit though -- the ♥ NY trope is obvious enough even if you don't know anything about computers. Also: the point is that geeks will buy it to confuse other people.

The franchise who make the I Love NY shirts are incredibly militant about parodies of the very shirt and will pounce on any of them on sale. Hence why the I (Have never been to) NY shirt got removed from thsi site.

good luck though!

thanks thisisforreal and insula. I ♥ you guys. :)

out of curiosity, if the shirt is selected for production and people overwhelmingly want the "softwear" line removed, is it possible to alter the design after the voting? or not?

♥ would be better I believe as well. But this is good.

Doing it in open source is genius. But the genius of it is the relative obscurity of the reference, and that's why it probably won't win. But it's still brilliant.

..so I'm completely not a geek, i don't understand it at all. Can someone explain what it means or is it a secret club/ handshake thing?

Pretty cool! I'd get rid of the text at the bottom. It's a brilliant idea, though.

Overwhelmingly, get rid of the text.

dcitarella on Nov 12 '07
sure, trojan_pony. The ASCII Code (#9829;) creates a heart in HTML. You can see it at the top of the screen where it says "I ♥ New York"

Love the idea!! But I don't like the small text (as FRICKINAWESOME) said. And I'd change the NY with something more computerish - it's not New Yorkers who are gonna wear this shirt - it's computer geeks and people who love them. :) Maybe "I #9829; HTML"?
