Wonderful creepiness, balanced by the beauty of the drawing... the folds in the dress, the girl's feet and hair... everything is so skillfully rendered. $5

Wait a minute, that branch is growing out of her forehead! OK, so maybe I'm a bit slow... but why is the branch growing out of her forehead? Am I missing something here?

thanks opifan!
phyntosia: i also don't usually go literal on my designs because like what Fawnfruits said, "sometimes it's better not to get it" but for you i will. anyone interested in my art is always welcome :) i wanted a shirt which could still be wearable even the season had already past so i came up with this. there are the little literal elements like the snow and the drab-red "Poinsettia" to emphasize the Christmas-y feel in a subtle way. obvious but not too loud. i tried to mute all colors for a lonely and cold vibe which i think works better for the setting. this being a SURREAL piece is subject to many interpretations if you nitpick each element... like the branch on her head, the tree that seemed to come out from her back and the faces/emotions that make the branches. but u need not to dig really deep to extract a very deep substance to reflect each element because if you're going with opifan's interpretation, it sounded more sophisticated, which could also work as well. but u might get disappointed if i explain to you that as an artist, while doing a design/piece, i tend to work on the design to communicate VISUALLY while unconsciously realizing the fact that it could be interpreted as something like "an extension of her psyche" or something like that (which could work as well like what I've said) without really labeling each component as this and that precisely. for example, i placed the branch on her head because the tree is growing from her inside *which can also be subject to many interpretations* and visually, it gives an illusion that she seemed like a deer/reindeer which is associated to Christmas. and to add a deeper meaning, a part of her that had to burst or come out. all these can be interpreted too as all the things we keep inside to mirror and camouflage these feelings as something positive for the holidays. to make things uncomplicated, The Holiday Paradox. :) |
