At present the bird looks too much like a sparrow to me but I do think it is a clever idea.

shouldn't the beak be bigger?

and the tail longer?

and it is hard to see the eye...a dot of white, maybe?

i like the image but it does sort of look like a sparrow with a long tail

thanks for comments.

the magpie was taken from a photo of a European Magpie (pica pica) so blame the magpie for the tail length. appreciate comments on beak and eye though - an ornithillustrator am clearly not :)

I'm glad to see you took my advice and submitted it to Threadless, definitely a big five from me (although the above comments do seem fair).

Fingers crossed for you mate!

Think Counting Crows song is reference to ye olde Medieval rhyme - I've certainly known it since childhood.

i thought this might have been going for some sort of Magnum P.I. joke, but the more obvious explaination soon came to me...

haha, magpies exist all over the world and can look quite different from each other, you should see the huge ones we have in Aus! So i wouldn't pay much attention to the physiology, i think people will get it anyway!

i'll agree with biol-nerd above, australian magpies look more like bloated crows with a habit of swooping innocent bystanders...

clever though.
