About my design
by jacksos
New design has no border. Shirt color is used for artwork lines as well as wall shadow. New maze is easier... perfect for a 20 minute subway ride. Downtown turquoise on chocolate. See full resolution design here. Go ahead. Do the maze. You know you want to.

hand draw "start" and you'll be in the money.

looks sweet. great maze, and much better without the border. I still wish the overall shape was a bit more organic and interesting, but the artwork itself is fantastic. If I could offer one piece of general contstructive criticism it would be to present your designs on a t-shirt model (photoshopped on to a real shirt). It would showcase your designs much better than those flat templates and allow the voter to better imagine the final shirt. Sorry to leave such a long comment... it was just advice someone gave me that helped me in the past. 5

opifan - - thanks for the props. I'm not convinced about the organic shape yet, what is more organic for art than the shape of the canvas? Is the front of a t-shirt not square?

Your icon is right up my alley. :)
I especially love your menagerie winner. I actually have a series of parade balloons in the city illustrations... lol. I'll have to upload them at some point.

I agree with opifan (all of it haha), but especially about making the shape more organic. It has improved tremendously already without the border. Keep it goin!

also agree about start in handwriting

I agree with iDanSimpson. This is cracking but let down by the text - hand draw start and i'll be queing up to buy this.

this looks a lot like the maze on Heros Quest 1 (when you have race the magician to the end). this ones a lot more complex though. I think it would be better to not go so far down the tee.

I like the colours but not so much on the shirt itself. Not sure why, just doesn't sit so well with me.

Keep it up though, looking good.

Very Funny. I think wearing this you would get a lot of people staring at your chest.

Great design; would definitely buy one. Not sure about the t-shirt colour though.

This is already a hundred times better than the bordered version, but I would agree with the others that a more sprawling shape would be more interesting than a rectangle. Still, at the end of the day it's your design, so if that's how you prefer it, it's your choice!

Good luck with the voting.

the right side looks cut off
Starstruck

Yrie is right I just noticed. The left side looks more filled in, the right side looks like you ran out of room. I do like how it goes down the whole shirt though. Definite subway entertainment!

lose the text and it's a real winner

Yep, take out the text, maybe widen it a little and shorten it too? I understand how frustrating it must be to hear that as you'd have to redraw a lot of it but if you did it I'd very much buy it :D

For all the work you did rendering the rest of the maze why not bring rest of it together with hand lettered type rather than a chunky sans serif?
jacksos
jacksos on Oct 18 '07
The type will actually be quite small on the shirt, the crispness will compensate for the soft ink and cloth. But since it seems to be a common theme, I'll hand draw type in a similar compressed san-serif font and check it out.
Thanks for the votes everyone!
