(matthijs) on Sep 20 '07 I like the idea, but the original Beatles shirt has been copied/parodied so often in every single way (other bands, celebrities, football stars, politicians etc.) that I'm just a bit fed up with this. If you could come up with an original twist somehow it might be worth it, because a golden girls shirt is pure gold.

I appreciate that switching the names for another famous foursome can bring a brief chuckle, as this did for me, but there's no real lasting appeal. 66 comments says otherwise though. |

iFDL on Sep 21 '07 i honestly don't think this is doing better than anyone else's due to the fact that i work at threadless. it has probably to do with (1) people know the golden girls so the shirt needs no explanation, and (2) i matched the font, size, style, kerning and tracking exactly to the original... hence a parody. but alas, the sub was meant to be in jest, and i really didn't expect it to be printed. honestly i'm surprised (yet kinda stoked) so many people commented on it.

I think the reason people like this one and not the other one is because people know what the Golden Girls is. 99% of people seeing that shirt probably don't know who The Shaggs are, much less their first names. I've known about The Shaggs for years and I didn't even get the joke until I read the comment on it.

This makes me laugh.
Not because I find the design funny, but because it just highlights the sheep-like behaviour I've always observed in this community. If you're popular, you're set for life, whether it's getting a thousand comments on a meaningless post or receiving accolades on a design that frankly, is totally unimpressive. (Before anyone tells me that I don't get it, I'll tell you that I've probably watched as many if not more episodes here than most of you. I loved the show and I still do.) The fact that this 'design' is receiving so much love and apparently so many $5s is a total slap in the face for the less well-known designers who've actually put time and effort into their submissions. And iFDL - this isn't a hit against you. If this gets printed, I can only congratulate you on a job well done - not for coming up with a good design, but for being so popular that people are actually willing to present you with a check for $2000. As for the rest of you... flame away. I couldn't care less what you think of me. I'm not after the popularity vote. |

I didn't even know the person who did this. I never even heard of them before....i guess they work for Threadless? So what i'm saying is, your views are true to a point but not on this one i think. Sometimes, no matter what kind of stuff you put up here, if you are a popular Threadless personality, it will get millions of comments. I don't think this is the case here, so you can butterfly kiss my ass! lol. |

I dunno, I think it's clever, my girlfriend loved the show and probably would love this. It's a parody but I think there could have been more done to make the message more VISUALLY interesting considering it's a designed shirt, I just think this took 30 seconds to make. As much as I credit you for being clever I can't give a high score.

1.76 is low, but not nearly low enough for something like this. A similar design got something like 0.7. And that came before this one.
If you can't see (or refuse to acknowledge) the whole pseudo-celebrity worshipping and clicque-y mutual backslapping that is so prevalent here... well, whatever. |
