About my design

by erinpillar
This isn't only a Mario design! Also shown are:

Mario - Bricks, vines, circular bushes, fire flower.

Sonic 1 - Palm tree.

Sonic 2 - Sunflowers, checkered bushes, floating islands.

Duck Hunt - Tree.

Zelda: A Link to the Past - Bushes, tiny flowers.

Sorry bro, gonna need a little more distinction than shrubbery. At least some enemies or rings/coins/rupees, or something that people will recognize more than plants. I could only recognize the palm from sonic and the blocks from mario.

Excuse me if you aren't a bro. Thinking video game fans are all guys is sexist of me.

This is a great idea, I like how you mixed all of the best old school video games. Yet I think Brimby has a point, a few coins or some baddies would be even cooler for the design. Than again I know how ppl are limited on colors and all.

Anyways I love the design, it looks great! Nice color choice aswell :)

Is it sad that the only thing I couldn't recognize was the duck hunt tree?

I like just having the shrubbery and the Mario boxes. The way I see it, random person looks at the shirt and sees the Mario box. They think, "Hmmm! Why is that there?" They see the Mario vine, the fire flower and it makse a little more sense.

Then! If they're even more in tune with their video game shrubbery, they realize, "Oh! It's a video game garden!" I don't expect people to see it all right away... and I think that is the fun in having a distinct shirt.

Annnnnd not to go on tooooo long, but I don't like copying other people's characters. Just a personal thing. :)

Thanks so far!

I like it! I used to play those games when I was a kid.

I really like the whole "video game garden" concept. The only thing I didn't immediately get was the duck hunt tree.

I'd totally wear it on forest green. 4.

I got the whole idea from watching a kid play Duck Hunt and thinking "I wonder how many people have stared at this exact same, unchanging screen and never noticed -or- know TOO well this same tree.

I like the shadow plants in the background and I really love how the sonic tree still has that great polygonal shape that defined the look of the origional sonic game. Nostalgic. You must have put a lot of work into this. 5$

I like the idea, but some of the elements need to be further defined and possibly grouped together differently. Or maybe using the vertical space of the shirt a bit more? Maybe the bottom part of the screen (the underground-scorpion creeping part) from Pitfall!, and possible the Donkey Kong Country rendered trees? I like the idea a lot tho.

Sorry I couldn't incorporate any Guitar Hero plants. I'm not imaginative to do that. :)

maybe some coins or rings or just one other thing to make the idea jump out a little more. or even if the question mark boxes were a little brighter so the contrast was better. really like the concept though!

I'm starting to wish I had included sooome sort of Donkey Kong reference. Is it possible to add things if it gets chosen?
eyedewtwo
eyedewtwo on Sep 28 '07
Yeah, designers add stuff all the time, but sometimes fans disapprove of their changes. (See "Treasure Map" blog about the addition of the word "rectum")

Brilliant on the green. Really truly awesome. Maybe but something other than shrubbery to show other video games, but I like the simplicity of this design.

DEFINITELY put in a DK Country 1 reference. Maybe a cave in the background, or one of the trees you jump on that appear throughout the game but are especially useful in the first (world). I can't remember what it's called.

loving it, but could the colours 'pop' more?

I've only got two more days... but I'll see if I can make a quick change and link it to my flickr. :)

Other than shrubbery = like rings/coins, baddies, etc? I was kind of hoping to keep it to just a garden (possibly put in some sort of statue/relic).

And colors can definitely be worked on. (There's already a little more contrast in the tiny blue version.)

If I had more time, I would've decided on a good DK tree to add, but I just don't have time before the voting ends! Any suggestions?

I grew up with Sonic and a Gensis, so I don't know which DK plants even ring a bell for gamers!
