Pretty good looking, i think if this were printed on a dark blue shirt, it would look awesome. Then again, if you did that, you might lose the definition on the elvis and lips.

Well done! its almost oozing Americanism which...sounds rather gross.

wow this is really good...but is it too soon to have the twin towers on a shirt...i mean...i know people are going to disagree with me...but its only been 6 years...thats not that much

I think the shirt color is perfect: it reminds me of the American institution called McDonalds.

Yes; oozing Americanism....*shudder* gross. (but shirt is good)

It's a beautiful design, but the towers ruins the design for me. I see you have corruption, consumerism, fast food consumption, celebrity idolization, icons, and monuments. That all works for me, but I'm not sure where the towers come in. Everything else there is what America stands for good and bad, but the towers is someting terrible that happened to America. I say loose the towers and replace it with

apple pie, or baseball, or our TV obsession, just something, anything else would be better.

I don't mind the towers. To me they represent not the event but the whole terrorism freak out that happened in the years following and the disaster with the "war on terror".

Looks great.

I love the shirt too, very clever and interesting. I also agree that the towers need to come off. I would not be able to wear the shirt with that reference. Still just feels too personal and awful.

descartes on Sep 22 '07
Wow good design. Good even for a shirt. But not on here. Not everyone on threadless is american. I would never ever wear it. If I was American, or maybe even pro-American, I might consider it. But I'm not, I wouldn't put on the banner of Americanism in a million years.

Again, the design is great, the art is great, but ultimately misplaced.

I don't like the towers very much either.

However, i think i love the mickey mouse ears on lady liberty.

It just made me smile.

I'd like the twin towers if they weren't on fire and the plane wasn't about to divebomb into it. They would be fine and people would get the point of them being on this tee without the extra stab in the heart the TT now represent to us. Great design besides that...4$

all of the parts of this design are pieces of america and unfortunely the two tower attack now count on the amercia history. sorry for people who are shocked of seen this towers.

It's just a very sensitive issue in this country now and forever Karnaf. I love the idea of having the twin towers as exclamation points, but you might wanna do the sears tower and the empire state building, or just one exclamation point.

This is an amazing shirt. After reading all the comments, I went back and really studied it, and realised that I liked it quite a bit. I think that the color choices are excellent. In response to Descartes, I'm not sure that one's nationality should prevent one from voting on whether a design is good or not; that seems rather limiting and a bit juvenile to me. I am an American, but I have lived a good deal of my life in both Asia and Europe. I can look at America and see its good and bad sides, and feel both love and exasperation. It would be great if there were designs here that referenced other cultures; I'd enjoy voting on those as well.

I agree with those who have said that the twin towers ought not to be on the shirt. Their demise IS a part of our history, but not in the same vein with the other symbols on the shirt. To keep the balance of the design, I liked the suggestion to use some other towering structure that is still intact.

I love it. The towers should definitley stay-- they are apart of America and they represent both the horrors of that day and how we have grown from it. This shirt is a true testament to americanism.

skeletorsean on Sep 23 '07
It's an amazing design, and in all honesty, people can take it anyway they want it and that's part of its appeal. It has iconic symbols that represent modern American culture, and it's up to the viewer to decide whether its insulting or a "banner of Americanism".

And in response to the WTC on the shirt, it's a good finishing touch. Numerous images of events and symbols that defined America, and at the end, the one event that has defined the past 6 years of American history. It's not as if Karnaf is using the towers in any political way, so give it a rest. It's a neutral, yet powerful image.

powerful design. the towers kind of make me sick to my stomach, but that i think is a big part of your point; they, in fact, make perfect sense next to the mickey mouse liberty... good work.

I think the towers as the exclamation points is brilliant. The only thing I'd change is take out the plane. It would be a bit more tasteful, but still recognizable.

Great shirt....Maybe if I wasn't a New Yorker, the towers illustration wouldn't upset me. But it does. Otherwise, great. The Towers illustration probably wouldn't be cool w/me for many years to come.

the plane does help tell you that they are the towers, besides the fact of how sensitive the subject is though. very well thought out.

i love it... it reminds m of the song Amerika by Ramstein.... but yea.. there are ppl who will freak out about the towers... they see it as that you are capitalizing on others suffering, (but of course these are the same ppl who think the "will you remember" song is a great tribute)... i myself like the design.. but yea.... the only ppl who willl have a major prob are those old enough to recall, and were directly affected, the younger generations wont cae as much.. an example is Pearl Harbor.... the old folks would freak out if you did something with japs divebombing them.. whereass the current generations dont care, because it doesnt other them... grr.. now my rant is becoming randome prattleings..

I dunno about the towers. I sort of look at the rest of it, and laugh, and then I saw the towers, and from the humor that I saw the rest of it, it's sort of distasteful

Personally, I find the towers offensive. While they are undeniably a part of American history, they are nowhere near the same vein as fast food, the statue of liberty, or Elvis. The emotional reaction that people have to the tragedy on 9/11 is far too strong to be trivialized by lumping them together with Disneyland and oil. Also, they look like exclamation points on the end of the phrase, which seems to trivialize the shirt even more.

While it is a great design, you can't deny the fact that a great number of people here on threadless (and I'm sure in real life) will find it highly offensive, even if that isn't the intention. You have to remember that interpretation doesn't rest in your hands, it belongs to the observer.
steve_wirzba
steve_wirzba on Sep 25 '07
First of all, the fact that this shirt has evoked so many long, empassioned comments means this shirt NEEDS to be printed.

This shirt is very good. I manages to combine both admirable and deplorable elements of American society and culture, and leaves the observer to form their own opinions.

the towers, ironically, are the best part of the shirt, as they signify America's immense strength and determination, as well as ignorance as a nation, but it may ultimatley be the reason this shirt may not get printed. Consider the artistic and stylistic quality of this shirt, and its extremely powerful message, i feel that it's Threadless' DUTY to print this shirt. Heres hoping they do. $5

leave the towers, take out the plane... I think it wouldn't be as shocking (which isn't necessarily a good thing for a shirt) if it didn't have the plane in it..

also Karnaf, your style is very playful.. and everything else in the design is also pretty tame.. you could either add more serious stuff about america or take out the only really serious thing in the design..

PGTheGreat13 on Sep 27 '07
steve_wirzba, I totally agree with you. I believe there's a lot of symbolism in this shirt, and I really like it.

I personally think it would look a lot better on a different color, though.

Can't tell if you're saying something positive, or negative, or what but the design is interesting. Having a plane fly into the towers is kind of trivializing a profoundly sad moment don't you think?

I'm rating it a 5 because it's an awesome design and I can see it working for a lot of people. Personally, t-shirts that take on too many political / social criticisms kill me so I wouldn't buy it. But design-wise I think it's great.
