This is my first design for Threadless, and my first time designing anything with color restrictions. I've spent a pretty large chunk of my life on this since the contest was announced.

I've always loved Iron & Wine. Sam's voice makes me feel all warm and liquidy. I don't care if that's a word or not.

Created in Photoshop, with a tiny bit of Illustrator thrown in. I have a love/hate relationship with AI. Mostly hate.

I need glasses now, thanks to this obsession. After working with tiny pixels until 3 or 4 am, the vision in my left eye would go dark, and since my right one is no good anyhow, I was forced to sleep. It's probably a good thing to sleep once in a while anyway.

It's for the Iron & Wine "Boy with a Coin" competition. The second verse is:

a girl with a bird
she found in the snow
it flew up her gown
and that's how she knows
that God made her eyes for crying at birth
and then left the ground to circle the earth.

So there are lots of girls with birds and boys with coins floating around the submissions this week.

i love Iron and Wine also! he has such a different sound and quality to his music and lyrics...

i like the flow of your design, and the white gives it such a clean and pure look to it. it seems to work well on all 4 colors, but if i had to choose i'd say the pink is my favorite, next the light gray, lastly the yellow

Sorry about not posting the lyrics with the submission. I sorta made the assumption that everyone else's life was also revolving around this competition :)

Do you think guys could wear this? I have the background set to the denim color, which was my original thought for it. I also tried it on brown back when the grey-pinks were a light shade of blue.

Anybody ever heard of Lisa DeBenedictis? I'm listening to her "Tigers" cd. It's sort of mood music for this design.

well, I wouldn't wear it. But that's not to say it's not very nice! It is.

Also keep giving AI a chance, just as a brush is a different medium then pen it can add something to your repertoire.

More comments please. I just paid my property taxes and I need some love.

Oh, and thanks, AGil. I think I'm just a bit lost with AI. I can do some really easy hings very well there, but the pen tool just makes my head spin.

Thanks. I'm feeling kinda bummed out about the whole thing. It's hard to think about how many people gave me a big fat zero :(

i know how you feel...take a look at all my designs especially the earlier ones and how they did....don't be bummed, it's not bad for your first submission i guess although i still think it should have done better. a "threadless friend" who has researched a lot said it's really hard to score over a 3...i guess you have to get used to the scoring system...it helped me to take a lot at what's been printed and what it scored, also to get a feel for the variety of styles, etc. that said, i know my style is still very different from a lot on here, but it pleases me and i'm not going to compromise it...maybe someday it will do well, maybe not. i guess bending your style/submissions to the audience is something everyone has to figure out how far they'll go to do it...that said, i think your style on this one is much more suited to the tastes on this site than mine! there were a lot of entries in the Iron and Wine comp, so maybe it just has to do with that...maybe try this style on another theme and see how it goes! have a great day Michelle!
