Is it possible that the sad tree is a different type of tree and that's why he is sad and imagining two pine trees who are happy & in love, but they reject him because he's not a pine??

add some, like, maple leaves on the ground around the bare tree so we know he's not an evergreen 'cause otherwise it doesn't make much sense..

where i come from there's no winter, and no "natural" pine trees around, so i don't know much about them. i thought they all look like that when they're dead.
but i get what you guys are saying after google-ing quite a bit! oh well.. i learnt something new at least. :) |

Pining for pines...how about making the sky & snowfield into 1 as they appear in the bubble, rather than having the 2 ellipses overlapping? I find that part distracting. I would make the dream bubble a bit larger as well... wonderful concept.
