About my design

by Joseph Allen
My interpretation of Iron & Wine's "Boy With a Coin" It seemed to me that the boy and the bird... and the girl and the sea are one in the same... Take another listen with this in mind, I think it adds another interesting layer to the song. See what you think.

Thanks to Threadless, Sam Beam, and Sub Pop for making this happen... and to you, for your votes and comments.

Feels a little like Frida Kahlo. I think it's absolutely beautiful. The globe throws me off, but that aside, I think it's perfect.

Simply amazing, and a amazing song too. I was so happy just randomly flipping through submissions and saw the lyrics first and got excited then looked at the picture and was not disappointed, somehow you have seemed to squish every little bit of the song into this design, and make it still amazing. However reading your interpretation I always thought it was God leaving the earth to circle the earth... maybe its just me.

Also I just noticed the wine bottle! You get + marks for that, the only thing I can find wrong with it and its very minor is I would make the coin stand out more but thats just me.

5$ I love it.

You're right, I think that it is "god" who leaves the ground in the song "...then they left the ground" is intended to be a continuation of the story.

As for the coin, I was trying to limit the design to 4 colors, but I just realized a 5th color is possible and might help.

Thanks for the comment Todow.

Thanks for the comment Alex M. Solefish. It was intended to take on a staged (complete with props) americana folk painting feel (with a twist), but I can see how you would get the Frida Kahlo vibe with the figures engaged with the viewer. Thanks again.

Wow. 934 votes and counting! ... and a string of not-quite-positive saccharine sweet comments... how is everyone else feeling? So far, if there is general consensus on the suggestions so far, it would mean minor changes. I can dig. It would be great to hear how others are thinking / feeling about this submission.

I suppose the last comment was more sarcasm than saccharine... somehow I got the two confused.

Thanks for your votes and comments.

I don't like the shirt color.

It's really great.

But the shirt color is a turn off.

Thanks for the votes. Glad to see this is at least still in the running.

If you're loving this shirt let me (and Threadless) know. The five best comments get this t-shirt for free (shipping not included) when / if it wins (as long as it is not breaking any Threadless rules. Someone please correct me if it is.)

Thanks to the 2140 people who voted. Even if you didn't dig the design on the t-shirt... I hope it inspired someone... even a little bit. Lates.
