About my design

by farflung
there's a popular myth about horse statues, that the number of legs lifted off the ground is code for the way the rider met their fate.

If these are memorial statues, wouldn’t killed in action and wounded in battle be the same thing?

Nice design, by the way :)

My art professor said it isn't just a myth. And wounded in battle doesn't mean they died of that wound.

Are the horses wearing monocles?

i like the birds sitting on all of them, though.

I don't think that is a myth... or at least that is what I was taught.

The horse statue symbolism is an urban legend...I think I read it on snopes.com once.

I believe its killed in action, died from battle wounds, and died of natural causes.

i believed it too, but according to wiki:
"Although some statues in commemoration of the Battle of Gettysburg follow this practice, it is generally not used."

true or not, hope you like the design :)

This is a pretty cool design. I'm with the ppl that say the eyes are kinda creepy, though... And to PixelGurl: Wounded in battle would mean that they were wounded in battle and died of it later, after the battle. Killed in action would mean they were killed during the battle. At least that's what my sources tell me... :D But yeah, great shirt, farflung. I likey.

thanks truthxinxshadow - that basically sums it up.

the eyes are creepy, i know. i wanted them to look a little sinister - like the horses had been brainwashed or something.

thanks for all feedback.

whats with the guy who died of natural causes?

I'd like it better if it was just the middle "wounded in battle" one... that i'd definitly buy!

I know at least one statue that does not support this theory. "The Bronze Horseman" - statue of Peter the Great in St Petersburg, Russia. The horse has both front legs lifted off the ground, but Peter the Great died of natural causes...

Is this the nom de plume of an existing designer? Either way - it's great work.

I really wish this was printed. The idea is great and well-executed.

And I don't care what the rest of these jokers think, I LOVE the spooky dinner-plate eyes. :-D

^ I agree.

Though, at first I thought the top horse was Sleipnir, and now I'm disappointed that it isn't!
