I love this, I just don't like the snake under her boob. But I'm still giving it a 5$ because I like it :P

...why is the snake biting her boob!?

eh, 5$ anyway.

this would be cooler if those sculptures were in fact from the stone age not from the renaissance. and the thinker came much later and isn't entirely all stone.

The title, "Queen of the stone age" is a funny reference, this is obvious, the statues are not of the real stone age.

Thanks to all votes and comments.

Yeah, the snake under the breast looks a bit weird, maybe if the head continued a bit. Other than that, nice work.

I'd buy this! If the boob-biting snake was fixed a bit. Her leg also looks a little out-of-place.

Snake/Boob really kills it for me. Everyone would be squinting at my chest, trying to figure out what's up with that.

Agreed with the snake/boob thing. Maybe if it's wrapped around her neck?

I personally fear nipple snakes, so I recommend changing the snake's position on the woman. Also, all the snakes are oriented with their heads pointing up... Maybe canting a snake out on an angle looking back at David, or looking to the side... would add interest. This would be a 4 for me. Good job.

Great idea and very well done. I agree with others though...just move the snake from under her boob...maybe to across her belly or something. $5

Send the snake up her cleavage (that's where he's heading, looks like).

Chris Carney on Sep 05 '07
The snake should be going round her boob not at her boob. The backgound to the silloette looks out of place, try something more in keeping with the rest of the design. I think the snakes should be a darker green. I hope your going to re-submit this one with some changes. it's a good design
ladyjinglyjones
ladyjinglyjones on Sep 05 '07
Gyah. If we must nitpick, let's do it right. David was carved during the Italian Renaissance. The Venus de Milo, and the sillhouetted discus thrower, more than a thousand years prior. And the Thinker? That would be nineteenth century. Herein lies the brilliance of the statues; different eras, so no pegging a specific age.

I would say though, that the characterization of the woman could use a little work. If you're surrounded by three of the most famous human images out there, and you're listed as Queen, I expect a little more charisma. And yes, a little less snake on the boob.

I love how only one other person realized that your design is a reference to Medusa....

C'mon people of Threadless, know your mythological monsters!

My only nitpick (other than the snake/boob issue) is that it would be awesome if the winged statue of Athena Nike was in the back, since she's the one who turned her into a monster....

Awesome concept, great execution, its a great depiction of Medusa!

Chris Carney on Sep 07 '07
If we are going to nitpick let us indeed do it right. The background of the silhouette looks modern, and the statues are not meant to convey modernity, even if The Thinker was sculpted in modern times

13strong on Sep 07 '07
It is bizarre how few people seem to have picked up on the concept here - she's Medusa. She turns people to stone by making eye contact with them. The idea is that all these famous statues are not statues at all, but people who have befallen Medusa's magical gaze.

when i first saw this i thought of Cleopatra and how she died by being bitten by an asp. Then i saw the statues and hair and thought of Medusa. Maybe it's supposed to by a hybrid of Medusa and Cleopatra?

Anyway, great design!

this is beautifully done. the only thing that bothers me is that the thinker was in bronze and was done SO much after the other sculptures... oh wait. i see somebody has already said this. anyway. the art is really *really* great.

I completely agree with ladyjinglyjones "I would say though, that the characterization of the woman could use a little work. If you're surrounded by three of the most famous human images out there, and you're listed as Queen, I expect a little more charisma"

and actually the snake/breast thing does not bother me a bit

13strong: If dracolmagem was depicting medusa as you believe and dracolmagem seem to be going along with that. Then why didn't she say so at the beginning, she had the opportunity to do so but didn't. she made one comment about her design but didn't mention medusa again. Going on the title and her comment there was reason to believe that the "queen of the stone age" was a creation of dracolmagem imagination. There is nothing bizarre about not being able to work out that it's supposed to be medusa. Don't feel bizarred

i knew it was medusa but i takes some looking at to get it, i owuld bring some of her snake hair out in front of her body so you can clearly get it. but love it

Yay! I like this. And I am happy that you actually did the snakes fairly well (with the scales and anatomy). My family is very much into reptiles, so I'm very critical about such things, and you have done a very good job! Beautiful design. ^_^

I don't think Medusa was necessarily ugly - it was her gaze, not her looks, that turned people to stone.
