Ha, the reason you can't see the tail is because the monkey is based on Masaaki Sakai's portrayal of Monkey in 'Saiyuki' (Monkey) hence the cloud, staff and beefy mutton chops but no tail. Fear not though lovers of the fifth appendage, the tail is safely tucked inside his Game of Death style jumpsuit.
As for Gorillaz, no doubt the ape in a space suit, based on Cornelius from Escape from the Planet of the Apes, is to blame there as any simian space explorers bears some resemblance to the cover for 'Laika Come Home'.

My first thought was Planet of the Apes vs. Space Monkey. One reality has monkeys as test subject and one reality has humans as subject to the whim of apes.

I like others enjoy the art. Even without the eyes visible you gave the space monkey a very sly look like he knows what's coming. Great Job!
