It's very well done. Would like more contrast though.

The colour scheme makes it a little difficult to see all the details you put into this.

Shirt Placement plus a little atmosphere courtesy of Shanghai Triad
shirt placement/closer up/ song
The great music is from the group 'Shanghai Triad'.
music group link
The music really captures what the feel of the artwork should be.
....if you would like to hear the music, please press the little play button as I don't know how to get it to auto start.
Thanks for all the comments.

i sort of like the color scheme because only what's most important to you will pop out...but at the same time i find myself wondering what is important?

I can't see a damn thing and that's sad because it looks like it would be pretty cool.

I like it without contrast

The idea behind the illustration is to exemplify the romance, sensuality, danger, and intrigue of Shanghai during the 1930's. With gangsters, war, and infighting amongst Communist and Nationalists, this was an interesting time indeed. In this drawing, a woman who is in love with a nationalist soldier awaits his return. In case any unwanted visitors arrive, she is ready for them as well.

The proportions of her left arm are a bit off, but it's a very good design nonetheless.

i really like it. i'd put more shading in and make her hands a bit bigger

I love, love, love subtle colors. I think they set a great mood for this piece, and with brighter colors a lot of the emotional resonance would be lost. (The people talking about the proportions are right, but it's an easy fix and so won't affect the score I give).

It's hard to see. The sublety might make it a great piece of art, but does it work for a shirt?
beesneak
   beesneak on Jul 18 '07
Rathany-
Point well taken. I don't know why, but it isn't that hard to see on my two monitors. Maybe I need to check it out on someone elses. Thanks for all the feedback.

forget all the comments about the contrast...i like this...it forces people to really get close and have a good look at the design...that said...the design could be a little more interesting..

This really does need some more contrast to it.

   opifan64 on Jul 19 '07
i think the mood could still be retained even if you gave it just a little more contrast. i like subtlety, and i really do enjoy this submission, but i think more contrast would help bring out some of the great details without compromising the overall effect you were going for. i loved your ghost submission too... but the same comment applies. just a little more clarity would allow them to really shine - as they should, since they're both wonderful drawings. kudos for trying something different though. i admire your work.

from what i can see, it looks pretty dang cool. maybe it's my monitor or my danged deficient cones and rods (in mah eyeballs), but i just can't see it. i'll score it high though, because combining the description and what i can see, i think it's neat-o.

Thanks. I just check my design on my friend's shop computer, and it does seem a bit too dark. Strange that it was ok on my two lcd monitors at home.

yeah... i was looking at it at work the first time. on my Mac it actually looks very sweet. i gave it a $5 anyway.

Great detail, but feel it needs more contrast--maybe darker lines? I like the red shirt.

This score was totally unfair. I guess people were reacting to the low contrast, but this was as gorgeous illustration, and very evocative. Please keep submitting. Your stuff is great!
