About my design

by icon_red
I've always wanted to do a series of shirts with a classic monster theme... but I wanted to do it in a cartoon style as opposed to my normal grim/realistic detail when I illustrate. I decided to start with a werewolf... it just seemed like the right thing to do. I hope you enjoy it, there will be many more to come!

Wow, I like the style of the roots and branches on the tree.

What's up with the white outline? To me, the outline makes it look like the cartoon werewolf is a sticker that someone put on the shirt. If he were more a part of the environment, I'd be more into this.

I had it without the outline at first, but the werewolf's are gets lost in the tree. I then tried it with an un-filled outline, but the color choice for the shirt was too close for competition.

Thanks for the feedback. I always try to keep things like this in mind when working. I really appreciate it.

I love this but I'm with mjoo on the outline. I would really like to see you come up with another way to bring the werewolf out than to use something that cheapens the design that way :-(

this is something totally odd to say... but i think it looks best without the werewolf! it just doesn't match the style of the background at all, it seems like it would be something printed on a more sub-par t-shirt. maybe restyle it to be more similar to the background? or at least get rid of that white outline...

do that and i'd buy it positively for sure. right now, it's just... ehhhhh?

I agree with caleb, I would definately buy the shirt without the werewolf. Mabey you could make another shirt that only has the background.

Would people wear it with the background if the werewolf were a bit subtler with of course no white outline? I did the WW I just want the outline gone. I feel like the WW is looking menacingly at whoever is looking at the shirt to answer Chelly's Q.

I also agree with caleb.

I appreciate the feedback and I'll keep it in mind in the future. However, the werewolf was a creature I had illustrated years ago [just for fun] and I thought I could throw him on a shirt. I added a BG and said it was done.

The reason there is a white outline on him is because he's the focal point of the image, not the tree or the moon.

I promise to include illustrations here in the future with more thought on this.

Thank again!

Would it be possible to have a thin orange border inside rather outside the monster thus keeping the colours apart

LOVE THIS SHIRT!!!! Keep it as is, I definitely understans=d the need for the outline on him. Would LOVE to see you do your "classic monster" line in entirity.. Dracula next plz? =D Wish I could score this higher than a $5

what if you put the werewolf on a totally different shirt all alone? it is a strong image so it would "pop" by itself with out the other "distractions" (which would also look good by themselves).

i dunno, just a thought :)

I don't like the werewolf but I'd buy a shirt with just the moon and trees. Perfect for fall/Halloween.

I have to say that I agree with keeping the moon & tree and adding the werewolf to another shirt with something else going on, or him by himself. I'd like to see him with maybe a little Jr., dressing up as a kid for Halloween, or helping an old lady across the street. He's great, and I want to see him in a comic situation for some reason. :) $3, as is.

The style of the werewolf does not at all fit the style of the tree and the moon... it's much too clean compared to the background.
