I'm a fan of reading clothed. I think it's a cool idea, but the nudity isn't necessary. Not that I have problem with nudity...
mollyric
mollyric on Jul 17 '07
I like this design. The conservitave part of me wants her to be clothed...but the liberal side of me doesn't really care...either way it is a 4 for me.
moonizia
moonizia on Jul 17 '07
I dont think it matters THAT much because it's not really obvious nudity and it's less noticable. That being said, I might be a little uncomfortable wearing a nude person anyways. The design is amazing though, i'd buy it (clothed) $5
autumn_firefly
autumn_firefly on Jul 17 '07
I guess I don't get why she WOULD be naked, it's not a matter of conservative/liberal. It's out of place. And even though I really like the drawing itself, I think I would want color variation... 3.5, if I could give that

man, i've read naked before and maybe i stand alone but i think with how busy the books look that the clothing, with all the details and folds, that she might not stand out as much from the books.

i really wasn't thinking about a naked girl, I guess more about the conveying the soul of a person. boy or girl. I am kinda interested in what people think about the idea of the books being stacked as in the title. I will post a link to a bigger image with the tan version, which was my original color scheme. I always second guess myself. Thank you for the comments, and does anyone really want a redesign?

Not massively fussed about the nudity - it's not sexual or anything. She's just naked.

In fact, given that it's the Library of Dreams, it seems appropriate.

I like how the books spiral up and out from the figure, but I don't think that the figure itself is as 'neutral' as you intended it to be. It clearly looks like a woman, which is why there's a lot of attention to the fact that she is nude. I also wish that the light shining on her book could reflect a bit more on her figure, too, to differentiate her just a bit more from the book towers.

Kookaberry
Kookaberry on Jul 18 '07
I think the nudity is perfectly fine and appropriate because she's in a dream world. It's tastefully done as well. I think the print should be a *bit* smaller though. It dominates the front of the shirt in an odd way.

The impression I get from this is simply:
She has books. What interest or need has she for anything else (even clothing)?

dove95
dove95 on Jul 18 '07
Why is everyone hung up on her "nudity"? I didn't even notice that she was until people started saying that. I thought her image flowed so well with the books that yeah, what Kookaberry said is the best way I can explain it.

I don't care about the nudity. The design is lovely. But I do care about the size of the image on the shirt. I just don't like the look of very large designs on a shirt, so my personal preference would be for it to be a lot smaller. $5

b-boyben on Jul 20 '07
Wow, lots of comments! It is after all, a bit odd. Why the nudity? What does it have to do with anything? Not that it's unattractive. In fact it's obviously an attention grabber for loads of people. Perhaps that's the best thing about it. It IS out of place, but that's actually what makes it.

I always read naked in my precariously stacked library.

fnlfreakcass
fnlfreakcass on Jul 20 '07
i love this drawing! and for those of you are stuck on teh fact that the girl in the drawing is naked take into mind the title of the piece; a library of dreams. and i think having her naked truly shows that maybe she just wants to be left alone with her books in HER libarary of dreams
holynazi
holynazi on Jul 20 '07
like the blue. makes it look like its dark, which makes the light more logical. the nudity is not really nudity because its not really showing anything so dont be too orthodox here people. I like it because nude = comfortable and her being nude shows comfort in her books.
TheGange
TheGange on Jul 20 '07
Beautiful drawing. The blue sets a mood which works for me. I agree w peops who feel the nakedness is out of place- interesting how it makes so many uncomfortable. Fills up too much of the shirt for my taste.

Does that have something to do with Neil Gaiman's Sandman?

Well... I think the nudity is completely fair! While dreaming we're always naked! Clothes stay in the physical world! And If you dream you're wearing something it's probably made of dream material... not fabrics!

Reading naked is ill advised. There are just some places that you never want to get paper cuts.

But, I like the design!

Wow it's really fascinating to read people's take on nudity, for some its a huge deal and for many its isn't. It is after all pretty subtle. The art is amazing and the colors beautiful, I would definetly buy this. Way to go matchhead. . .by the way The Scribe was b.a.

Neon Tattoo on Jul 23 '07
It wouldn't work if she was clothed. The whole thing about books is that when you're reading, it's just you and the book. You allow yourself to be vulnerable and take in whatever it is you're reading.

Keep it as it is. On blue.

That's one of the sexiest things I've ever seen. "Hot" girls are coupled way too often with cheap American beer and muscle cars. Bringing "sexy" back to poetry, literature and imagination is beautiful.
Spam69
Spam69 on Jul 23 '07
These comments have bought me out in a broad grin. Something I and the rest of the world don't understand about American culture is that extreme violence ( harmful and unnatural ) is perfectly acceptable and common place in popular film, television, art, and literature but show a hint of thigh, nudity or heaven forbid, sex ( perfectly natural ) and everyone starts squealing and jumping up and down. It's not even immediately noticeable that she's naked and it's tastefully done and adds to the design - which is also excellent by the way......

I only noticed the nakedness after it was pointed out, clothes would break the flow of the design so she should be naked.
affabletoaster
affabletoaster on Jul 23 '07
I have no problem with the nudity as a stylistic thing, but as a "I want to wear this in public, and to visit my mum, and to work" issue I would not be able to buy it as it is. It wouldn't detract from anything for pant legs to be there, but it would prevent me from getting chased around with a frying pan, which happens to be a big deal to me.

$5 for the blue (it would also look really nice in shades of green). This is a beautiful design, and I would love to buy it!

To the person who says we're always naked when dreaming: Um...what? I can't remember an unclothed dream, but I can remember many clothed..

Really well done! I look forward to more of your designs, too!

truemidge
truemidge on Jul 23 '07
Thank you Spam69...well said.

Nudity has nothing to do with sex, people. Nothing. We are all nude underneath our clothes. It's beautiful and natural and free, and there is nothing wrong with it whatsoever. The sooner everyone can accept that the closer we collectively get to some sort of Ascension. The design is beautiful, the symbolism is obvious. Why cover up the soul in a dream state when we spend so much time covering up in our waking one?

I like the blue. I'd like to see it with a very high window and a full moon shining thru as well. $5.

Not only is the nudity out of place, the proportions on the figure's legs are really odd, and her eyes look very strange. I love the concept, but think the reader needs some more work.

Who cares about nudity?! It's not like it's in any way pornographic. I love this tee and with a smaller design, I would definitely buy it. Maybe it's my European ways...

Either way, I still rated it 5.
