Do you take your swiss army wife to have and to hold and to cut with and open stuff with and uncork wine with and file your finger and/or toe nails with...etc...

ball and chain!
I like the idea, but I wish there were more positive things about "the better half". She's more than make-up and a cook.

Verbal pun is a bit of a handicap and the execution
of the concept might have gone better. Doesn't "grab"
attention as a design. A 1 score I guess.

well, at least you didn't just put a bunch of stereotypical female items there i guess

A pun that isn't immediately noticeable, but a striking and well-balanced image all the same. And i've never been so attracted to cutlery before...

Other than the well-noted offensive stereotypes and the fact that "Swiss Army Tank" was JUST MADE, this is alright, but nothing more.

I actually like it on the black with the "quote," but that's just me.

but why would a guy need a swiss army wife with a lipstick & mascara wand?
Jennyliz
Jennyliz on Jul 14 '07
Hey, ivywillow! That's a good question. My attempt at an answer is that wives are awesome; they can multi-task and take care of their hubbies and kids all while looking lovely. I think men appreciate their wives' beauty and like to see them looking nice. Perhaps that's why the lipstick and mascara? But I do get what you're asking about why the man would need them in his pocket knife ... or, rather his pocket wife. It's an awesome design and I will definitely buy it if it's printed. Great job, burgz!

I thought just like Ivywillow.

If a man buys it, why then include lipstick?
It it would have been a swiss-man then there could have been lipstick on there.
ivywillow
ivywillow on Jul 15 '07
Glad to see I'm not the only one who questioned it. Second question would be, why would the swiss army wife NEED lipstick or mascara, she's GOT NO FACE. (Boobs & hips, yeah, but no face.)

On a positive note, I love the style, just not the confused message.

Thanx for the honest comments and the intriguing questions. I may not have the right answers though. For Zegrod, if a man buys what… the T-Shirt or the actual swiss army wife product? I don’t think there’s such a thing but if there was I’m sure his wife/girlfriend would find the cosmetics useful if she’s into that. I’m sure lesbians can buy this too if so inclined. As for the faceless spoon question, I chose not to engrave a face on the spoon because…it’s a spoon. Just like how the swiss army knife didn’t include a finger for the handy nail file it comes with. It doesn’t come with a beer either. That’s funny, it has a bottle opener though. What’s this? I can uncork wine. But, I don’t drink wine. Shucks, I guess I’ll just settle for a jack knife. It’s just a play on words. I wanted to show how multifaceted a wife can be to a husband with a touch of bar humour.
Here’s a thought, how can a unicorn shit bite size marshmallows in a bowl of cereal without “May contain fictional horse shit” on the box?

What's that disconcerting noise I hear in the distance? I think it's...by George, it's the roar of an army of 10 000 feminists angered your objectification of women! What a sight to behold. If I were you (the designer), I'd be cowering in fear right now.

I, however, will sit back and watch the drama unfold.

.... Why is everyone so "objectionification of da wimmenz!??!" If it had beer, a remote control, and a pickup truck, nobody would be complaining, despite the fact that not all men enjoy beer, tv, and/or lugging things around in a vehicle. I actually appreciate it. It shows how women are multi-taskers. Like Swiss Army Knives. I'll take that as a compliment, thanks.

Burgz - Great work. It looks awesome, and it a sweet idea.

Perpetuation of stereotypes, subjugation and oppression of any group is unsavory. Especially if that group has experienced (and continues to experience) unequal treatment and access to resources. I'm sure Burgz was not intending to be offensive, but it is offensive nonetheless. I would love to see something more socially responsible.

k i am a total feminist and this does not offend me @ all!! I love it! some of you are taking it too literally:

-"but why would a guy need a swiss army wife with a lipstick & mascara wand?"

this is not a real product for sale!!!!

anyway, i would wear this - it kicks ass $5

I agree with the above comment. It's all in fun.

But, I gotta say, I'd really love to have the text and the logo, and I don't say that about many designs.
