A bit dark-- but its a dark topic.

The text is completely unnecessary, and actually makes this less strong as a concept.

I think this would be better if the lengths of the strings varied more wildly, covering the shirt in a less even manner.

Oopis on Jul 05 '07
I like the text, without it the concept is lost (I'm assuming people aren't going to be reaching behind my head and pulling out the tag to read the title). Besides, it's tiny. I agree about the strings though. Maybe just put pins right through the bird like you do with a butterfly on display. But when you display a bird it is stuffed. How about a different animal? Something we would recognize as extinct? Or maybe a cryptozoological creature? Some type of human? A Cobol programmer? A Democrat? (I'm one, so I'm allowed to say that) Anyway, your drawing of the bird is quite good so I hope you submit more of your work. I like to see people who have something to say, even if I've heard it before. Some things are worth repeating.

$5 it's beautiful and brutal at the same time. I think it works with the text- I like knowing what the person was thinking- the text works like a title on a peace of work in an art gallery- (without the text it seems psychotic).

I also think the text is necessary. Not bad.

Yeah, don't do away with the text, but definitely vary up the string lengths

I love the image, but the text makes it preachy. Perhaps put the text on the back to make it a bit more subtle? I'd still buy it.

I can see the bird is suffering. How sad! It is really a good message though.

If this shirt were in a deathmatch with the "Extinction is Forever" rainforest tee, this one would totally come out on top.

Put the text on the back and a little bigger. Also, the thread lengths changing someone mentioned above would be interesting as well.

I def agree with putting the text on the back. i didnt think about species extinction at all when i saw it. the concept and image is really strong and applicable to many aspects of oppression, the stripping of freedom and being tied down. maybe you should let people think about the image before they realize what they're looking it. def impacted me more that way. 5*

i dont like the string...
it just sorta goes into the bird
i think it should wrap around the bird...or something

also agree with text on the back... i think the text is necessary because i don't think people would get it otherwise.

Text on the back, and a little bigger, so you can read it from a ways away.

I like the text on the front. Without text, most people won't understand the concept, and on the back, it will most likely be hidden by hair anyway.

gotMOXY on Jul 09 '07
If there has to be any text at all, I think the idea to put it on the back is good BUT..
What if the text followed the line of one of the strings? That would be more subtle and thus more shocking once people notice it.
Other than all that, it's a good design.

I don't like the strings... they aren't really attached to the bird at all.
and with the text, in that context it would be "every day" and not "everyday". grammar, yay!

text on the back or sleeve. cool statement.

Lovely drawing. The detail is fantastic and it is a very strong image.
I do think that it would look better quite a bit smaller. So that it was mostly just on the chest, centered. Other than that. Very well done.

Text doesn't really work, at least not in that font. But the art is really well done.

okay, this is a great idea, especially because it makes a good point and makes you think. I would love to see the text bigger!! Maybe on the back of the shirt or circling the design...
I really love the concept though.

Wickedy, deep dark, strong message, thought provoking...

'Be a sad day if the magpies and minors were to disappear tho, yeah right, Tui.'

The thought lept straight from the void on seeing your image, thought provoking eh.

Without the text it loses impact, Luv it.

Your design is very poignant and topical, as it has been announced recently that the Yangtze dolphin is "effectively extinct". your imagery is very striking and the message unmistakable. How was this not choosen to be printed.
