I think the Jesus and Darwin banners are a helpful addition, and would thus prefer them. I'll still buy it either way - $5 as is. $4.5 without banners.

i dislike the banners, as mentioned above...
i just wouldn't walk around with 'jesus' on my shirt.
biesdesignstudio
biesdesignstudio on Jul 06 '07
I think the biggest problem with this is that 'meek' does not mean weakness, timidness, or shyness or anything of the sort; it means that one's strength is under control, more of a statement of how one uses his strength than the quantity of that strength.

</tangent>

I definitely would not buy this tee. The illo is cute though. 2.

I really like this as is. I do believe in Jesus but don't mind walking around with Darwin on my shirt but I guess it doesn't work the other way around for some. Anyway, I looked up "meek" and found that is can mean timid and lack of will. $5

Most certainly nothing with a quote from Jesus is gonna go on my tee unless calvin was pissing on it. Just playin! But seriously, this would be a solid and fun concept without the jesus and darwin banner.....people will know where the quote comes from.

I think maybe, some people are missing the insights the two images bring to the words. In the first, the bunny (metaphor for human) is taking great comfort in Jesus's words - the words mean he is blissfully ignorant of the fact that he's about to be eaten by a preditor. The image is a perfect reflection of the ignorance of some religious fanatics-- who reject scientific knowledge-- etc... In the end the bunny gets bitten in the ass by reality/science-- the scientific theories put forth by Darwin.

Also, biedesignstudio - You should look up your definition of Meek in the Oxford dictionary-- not some cheap dictionary from the Wallmart bargain bin.

catalina_s on Jul 06 '07
i think it could lose the banners, it would just be more subtle that way. "meek shall inherit..." is a bible quote, "survival of the fittest" describes darwin's theory of natural selection.
squelettenoir
squelettenoir on Jul 06 '07
Haha. I like it. I'm debating whether or not I would like wearing it, though, considering my nonreligion. I'm not sure if it would be good or bad yet.

Great design!

evilstan on Jul 07 '07
What's up with the centering of the "survival of the fittest" side? The brackets up top look too far to the right, esp. compared to the "meek shall inherit" side...

"Survival of the fittest" is actually attributed to Herbert Spencer, not Darwin, though he used it later.
jasper7777
jasper7777 on Jul 09 '07
I know-- wrote a paper on it-- made a conscious decision to use it--
But was waiting to see if anyone would say anything. Its cool that you did.
jasper7777
jasper7777 on Jul 09 '07
If you wrote what Darwin said - it would take up the whole shirt- if you tribute it to Spencer - noone knows who he is-- catch 22-- besides- since it sums up darwins theory- it is what Darwin said.
But its neat that you knew.

I love the concept. On the Darwin side I think another clear predator would be better. The bird looks too cartoon to be some kind of hawk/vulture. Maybe a coyote?

My sister has a witty and somewhat dark sense of both humor and reality. I like it and will by it for my daughter (her niece) because somehow my child has inherited jasper's artistic sensibilities and humor . . . I feel it is great, but am sad for the bunny--he looks so optimistic. The hawk is cartoonish but has a very scary eye. I believe Jesus & Darwin can coexist.

What's a Meek? Is that a Meek? I thought it was a rabbit.

I think it'd look better if you could somehow combine both parts onto the same surface. I wouldn't want to wear a shirt that someone would see from the front and think I was a Jesus-nut if I didn't explain that there was more on the back.
jasper7777
jasper7777 on Jul 17 '07
I agree, they should both be on the front.
If I had it to do over, I would also make the eagles face
a bit more preditory. And, fix the type to image alignment on the second one. Thanks!
