Lies about…

Oh he's posh and is criticising American politics like all the cool kids do. For the third time in a row.

Oh.

Because in a narcissistic world that only revolves around the US there are no other governments or entities worthy of holding their feet to the fire. Got it.

I think he is saying they are lying about wanting peace hence the peace sign. like they say they want peace but don't mean it, I like it.

Who says this is criticising US? could be any one of a number of countries. Just because it does apply to US doesn't mean it has to.

Jeez, be less sensitive. Our government has problems. No one is saying we're the only ones. Just get over yourselves. "Omg, he mayda sihrt bout teh you ess!!!one!!1!"

Anyway, I like this. I really like the concept. I doubt it will get printed, though. A little too controversial.

Whatever, you take it how you want. If you see American Government, great... because why NOT criticize them? When did we stop rising against the things we're against and turn them into cliches?

Bravo. I like it... Very brave

Q: Who is the social reject that still thinks the word faggot is cool.

A: pooner

Your comments are stupid and what makes you think you could do any better. Get a life man, do you have nothing better to do then to sit online and write middle school comments about designs that you are not talented enough to make yourself?

Your a loser

pooner is a cock monkey. threadless should monitor comments more closely and close people like that's accounts.

i saw this shirt, and all the coments you got, and i went right pass them, because i know there's got tp be a lot of cotreversy behind it. I REALLY like this shirt! It's amazing. It's great for the situtation we're in right now, and it's also a fabulous representaion of all the senless wars and lies around the world. I love it, i want it printed, and i want to wear it with pride!! 5$ 5$ 5$!!!!!!

I'd take this one waaaaaaaaaaaaay over the other boring political tees Caligraphic has made. And yes, this shirt can represent any number of governments, or anyone that lies for a living really. Better than the others, but i think your real strength is in the crazy optical illusion silhouettes you've been doing.

Because in a narcissistic world that only revolves around the US there are no other governments or entities worthy of holding their feet to the fire. Got it.

Or because one of the other two shirts I was referring to featured President Bush. Let's be a little bit more ready to jump all over someone, shall we?
Rolfy
Rolfy on Jun 30 '07
i think it brilliant aswell, and it never mentions a particualr country, and its not realy that contravertial, it just makes you stop and think for a second, which is deffineently a good thing. id buy it if it gets printed and its getting a 5 for sure.

Spam69 on Jun 30 '07
The trouble with most activist T-shirts is that appear too worthy and earnest and akin to hitting someone over the head with a house brick to get your message across. This is more subtle and clever than most but I stil wouldn't wear it. Keep doing yer stuff though because your good at it.

Alexandra Marie: my work has been shown in the Ukraine, Iran, France, China, Germany and Finland and has appeared in multiple international publications so I assure you I am aware of the world outside of the United States.

I welcome negative criticism as much as positive.

and I agree with barrywhite972's comments on pooner. Feel free to take shots at me, I am a big boy, I can take it. but the word fagot is not needed.

For people who like the design thanks and I will be selling the losing shirts on cafepress after the 90 days for anyone who did actually like the design. (arabiantealeaves )

The thing about my designs, the point is to get the message shown and have people talk about it, so it appears that this site is good for that. It is not all about the money though money is always nice.

Regardless of your opinion, thanks for taking the time to post a comment.

$4 with the text and $5 without. I like political statements with some abiguity so dorks like Pooner don't judge me when they are asking for change at the airport.

McCreary
McCreary on Jul 01 '07
Yeah, better without the text.

And why not get creative, silhouettes don't have to be black - I'd do a black shirt with a red silhouette, that'd be even more powerful regarding the "lies" since red implies blood/violence. That change would also allow, if the text remained, the retention of the red/white/black color scheme, the classic for all revolutionary/facist/whatever campaigns. Probably the most impactful three colors there is...

But I'd like to see a brown shirt with a bluish/blue-green set of hands (similar to "get some fresh air"), or even khaki on green (straight out Military commentary).

But it's better without the text, and I'm sick of red shirts :)
phyntosia
phyntosia on Jul 01 '07
I can't say I'm a fan of red shirts either, although I do like the text there... but apart from the design, about the message, I can't believe how many people thought this was anti-USA. I didn't read it that way at all, but if you choose to see the US government in that light, I guess you would read this shirt as anti-USA. Maybe it was even designed with anti-USA intentions, but it's ambiguous enough to be read in a few ways, and like the artist says, it gets people talking/thinking - always a good goal.

And also, irrelevant to the design, but I was impressed at how maturely the artist responded to some of the negative comments here. So often artists snap back or start attacking the person who criticised them, which seems really immature to me. So go Calagraphic :-)

What's that supposed to mean? Are you saying I'm fat?
Calagraphic
Calagraphic on Jul 02 '07
phyntosia is correct,

I met the design to be ambiguous so that it could be taken any way the person choses to take it, it was not written with anti-USA intentions though that was one possible ways to read it and I did know that.

Ban Pooner

Alexandra Marie : I do not see why someones social class gives them any less right to critisize the american government although that was a presumption on your behalf.

If anything "posh" people who criticize a government which makes policies that make the rich, richer and the poor poorer may be seen as more genuine in their criticisms as they are criticizing a system that benefits them.

Deco354
Deco354 on Jul 02 '07
oh and nice shirt

$4 Good flexible concept, nice simple design, the txt should stay otherwise it would be too simple.

Despite giving it 4 I would buy it as I lack in any red shirts :D

anniehalloffame on Jul 02 '07
The reason this is good is because it is ambiguous I don't really get how it has become an american politics debate when the shirt doesn't even mention america, this is a strong concept that is well designed and I would buy it.

ok ok ok...one at a time

i Love this design.

took it as being nonpartisan, more a reflection of worldwide pipe dreams of peace.

for me, it works particularly well in Red, b/c as a product of the 80's i associate Red with war/peace lies, misdirections, and bamboozlery.

and yes, Olive Drab would be appealing, too.

i like the idea that the above says peace, and the below says "not!", a la Borat. lol

items of note: Bush did not campaign on a platform of peace in 2004 (war, actually), so this shirt cannot be a critique of him, and those that voted for him should stop acting surprised and admit they are as responsible for Iraq as he.

(including Hillary and pretty much every other political critic of his)

TO ALEXANDRA MARIE: you are very beautiful, and your bf is Fugly (wtf?)...in case you were unaware. -xox
