I think it's the brows. They're in the angry Bert position, rather than an upraised laughing position. Slant 'em the other way and you're good to go.

The eyebrows may be causing the grimace effect, but I was focusing on the mouth and the cheek lines. Definite room for tweaking those shapes and lines if you wish to avoid the grimace.
