About my design
by jaz999
***(Chinese symbols stand for the elements Metal, Earth, Fire, Water and Wood)***
I wanted to submit this with the colours of all of the elements but it just refused to turn out, even using halftones, so we'll have to make do with orange and black until I figure it out. Unless you actually like this version :D
Let me know your thoughts!
Ah yes - larger versions (plus an alternative, darker version and zoom) can be found on my blog:

I really like this. $5 for the higher placement.

Thanks dude!
*I also forgot to mention in the description that the larger versions naturally won't sport my signature.

I like the higher placement and that it's off-center.

Great job! Either way, if its lower or higher, I agree that it be to the side a bit. But nice work! I might buy, 5, $ pending.

Higher placement, and "qi" is spelled with a Q.

Very nice.

This is really pretty. I kind of like the definitiveness of the darker version, but overall the light version is amazing! I like it lower, but apparantly I'm in the minority.

Honestly, when have you ever seen one of these awful "Asian" inspired designs printed. Agh...the radial symmetry, the dragon, the chinese text, it's awful.

Sensuous?

Thanks for all the positive commentary and votes. I was also aware that Chi or Ch'i or Qi is spelled many different ways and many different alphabets, so sorry if I didn't write it in 'real' chinese. I'm just trying to pay homage to the idea of a balanced world and of course to my favourite mythical beast.
And elvisthepink, what exactly are you trying to tell me?

Nice dragons.

I hate all those awful oriental-type designs as well... but this one is actually pretty funky as opposed to awful, so that doesn't apply :-) And there are several ways of spelling qi, "ch'i" is as valid as "qi" is.

I really don't like it but it's a nice color combination :-) $4

cool design and all but the the whole idea of chinese dragons , with the yin and yang has been soo overused in the last few years. its similar to something you might find on a childs tee in walmart for $6 next to the pokemon shirts.

overall id rate it cliché.

hmmm. I'm not sure if I like the color combination. The design seems sort of cluttered. It's pretty good though.

Looks nicely done, but generic. I've seen many shirts that, while inferior, aren't terribly different from this one. Sorry.

Beautiful design. Too many colors would over do it, great with just these two. $4 if placed in top center.

I am neither Chinese nor Japanese, but I was told by a friend that both languages use a lot of the same symbols, just that they're spoken differently.

This looks pretty sweet! I like either placement really. It would be interesting to see what it looks like with the different colors for the elemnts as you suggested. I`m not sure if i`m too fond of the brown and orange.
Also, i`m not sure if I like the dragons framing the center piece of the design. it kinda makes it look like any old chinese design t-shirt you couldbuy at target or WalMart.

Brown?
Hehe, judging by your reactions, maybe I should be sending my portfolio to all of those department stores ;}
Thanks for the feedback, people

elvis the 2nd meant you should put it in the sensuous contest. ( I think, don't jump me if I am wrong ) I absolutely love the dragons and the colors, orange and grey

Eep, it cut off part of my comment. I went on to say that I think that the yin-yang needs to be replaced with something that would really wow people, not make them think of Wal-Mart. I think this has great potential.

jaz999 on Jun 27 '07
DamnOptimism, I am starting to think the yin yang cheapens the design too, but I hate resubs and I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't want to see that either. Ah well, no harm trying, huh? Some peeps pull it off. Thanks for your tips

Dude this is... BRILLIANT!!! i love the way you put colors to match the shirt, and the movement and flow with the dragons around the yin yang. OMG, yes it will be a definite buy by me!

matress - they're chinese. the japanese language as borrowed the kanji from the chinese (as have the korean, though to a smaller extent). the meaning is the same but, as someone said, the pronnounciation is different most of the time. :)

i love the orange/grey combo. it's frickin gorgeous. but i'm not fond of the asia-style-dragons-and-kanji kind of shirts. maybe if the yin yang was replaced with something completely different, it would work.
