this is a really really good combination of artsy. i think sometimes the doodles submitted don't work, but i'm very impressed with the way that you melded your ideas together.

could you please define artsy? i'm just curious what you mean...i occasionally use the term myself but try to avoid it because it has pretentious connotations to me...i'm just really curious what you or others MEAN if you use the term artsy? do you mean artistic or creative? or is there another meaning? I see this as a girl singing... even the adam's apple isn't enough to make it look like a guy (to me). The angels, particularly the one on the left, look out of place, like r.c. said. If the left one were taken out, it'd be a 5$ for me.



heyheyitsme, I think what iamtenninjas meant by 'artsy' was just that the person's creative juices are being let out in a great way, but more to the point, a lot of the juxtaposing-of-different-images-together to form a design don't seem to match each other style-wise, or don't look good together, whereas this one does seem to work quite well. I agree with that, and don't see anything in it that would warrant a 'yuck'.

sorry maybe yuck was too strong of a word the other night...it's easy to get in a general negative mood at times when looking at a bunch of designs that pretty much give me the same feeling...that said, i should have simply said i don't care for this at all. my apologies!

I love both the turquoise on lavender and the purple on blue. Make the person a girl, though. Flowy hair would really look nice.

It's good technically, but I don't like the whole iPod 'i listen to music all the time and i love it so much I just might pee a little' thing.

Not cutting it for me, this style is becoming generic now and it bores me. When these visual mashups first appeared they were cool and fresh, then brands have now incorporated these styles in commercials, ipod for one. Now people just smash these together with no relevance using cassete type fonts etc.



This design for example demonstrates this. Speakers, angels and tribal designs are typical of these designs, and yet are completely irrelevant to eachother. I'm all for visual mashups aslong as they bring something new to the table. If I want a shirt like this one I could easily pick one up in a local clothing chainstore.



This style now shows a lack in creativity. Karnaf I'm sure there are many ways in which you could improve this; look at the recently printed design "ta$ty mix", similar concept but a new fresh approach in the use of detailed colour, hence in my opinion why it got printed.

As for my own take, it seems the designer has a good concept of how elements should fit together to be visually pleasing. It's just sad that this format is how that talent is being expressed. I have a feeling that he is capable of SO much more than a mashup. I love the way that all the elements point the viewer back into the image, circling back in on itself. Why couldn't this artistry be channeled into something less typical? I mean, yeah, I bought Ta$ty Mix for its use of color, but the mashup theme can't help but feel stale.



When will we see designers abandon comfortable formulas and reach into the abyss for something completely new? I know its out there. And I'll bet Karnaf brings it with his next sub.
