I like how you changed it. It's way better than your block before.

DarkSweets: Are you serious? It's almost the same design.

Snozz: You can't resub the same designs unless you make a substantial change. You haven't. I dobn't think this will score you more than 2.46 (a damn good score, by the way). Try to do something new. You did pretty well, now it's time to move on.

Every other nerdy guy in HS has a DNA shirt. I don't see that you're doing anything especially unique with the concept.

Re: steviec

I think the change is significant enough, the feel of the shirt is drastically different with fading in both directions.

Also, I think giving a zero because you don't like that he resubbed it is a little childish, how about scoring the design itself?

Sorry, I really like this though, I must of missed it the first time around.

bFusion, you are being more unfair than Steviec! To a lot of people (myself included) this looks like a very minor change to the original design. The designer even said as much!

The fact of the matter is, virtually anyone who cared to make a shirt like this could, likely in less than an hour, because there is just not a high level of skill being demonstrated in this. The designer had the opportunity to make considerable improvements, and didn't. A zero sounds pretty fair to me.

(At any rate, I would guess that people like myself and steviec, who are giving this a zero because it is badly made and a resub are evened out by many of the people above who are giving this 5s because they... like genetics.)

cool, I like it, though I think you could be a tad bit more creative with it, like maybe place the design differntly? I dunno, but I like it, good job.

I think the 's' is a typo, since the title is spelled right.

I love geek shirts but want mine with a little more punch. Gotta side with mjoo on this one, though I don't give zeroes unless I'm seriously annoyed or there's blatant theft.

These guys are giving you too hard a time. I like threadless because of two types of shirts: the clever ones and the ones that appeal to specific crowds of people. Personally, the artsy ones aren't my favorite, but this definitely fits into the "ones that appeal to specific crowds of people" category, so I say its damn good. Plus, it's different than any other genetics/DNA shirts that I see kids wearing at my high school, so I like it a lot.
Snozz
Snozz on Jun 17 '07
Mjoo, maybe I didn't want to make "considerable improvements" because I thought it was just fine the way it was. People before said they would like to see it fade in from the top or all edges, so I messed around with different ideas and this one seemed to be the best looking, even if it didn't change much.

And also when did the beauty of a piece of art (or a design) become based on how easy or difficult it was to make in the first place?
mj00
mj00 on Jun 17 '07
Snozz, the problem here is that this was not an attractive shirt in the first place. A lot of people gave you suggestions in your other submission on ways to improve this, and you chose to only change the easiest thing. (For instance, everyone complained that this was too square, and it still is. Fading the other end did nothing to change this.)

It's entirely possible to create something beautiful without spending much time on it. You didn't do that. What you created is, to me, both ugly and easy to create. I honestly don't see anything positive here (others do, which is fine, but it's really baffling to me).

I apologize if this sounds overly harsh, but there is really no way this is going to be printed here in its present form (take a look at the catalog, let me know if you see anything with a similar lack of style). You shouldn't be aiming to create a shirt that is "fine," you should be trying to create something that is amazing. Even people who don't care about dna should want to wear it because it is a beautiful object. That's not happening here yet- I love science and genetics, yet think this looks like complete crap.

Also, from the official Threadless rules: "Designs changed slightly based on comments will still be treated as duplicates. If the concept didn't go over well the first time around, just try something new."

Threadless itself thinks you should be making considerable changes. The fact that they're too busy to enforce this rule at the moment does nothing to change the fact that the rule exists.

I really don't understand al this discussion about resubmitting designs. I missed the first one so it's of no concern to me it beeing second run and I assume many other peeps also missed it.

All this "pointing fingers" thing and yelling "resub" just seems so inecesary. Just shut up and put a Zero if you don't like it.

To square, I would like it more if it were a more rectangular shape faded in the ends. You might wanna try resubmitting again ;-)

mj00
mj00 on Jun 18 '07
Gustaf, telling someone not to resubmit isn't about pointing fingers. It's about informing them of a rule they've (perhaps unknowingly) been breaking. I see no reason why the rules should be different from person to person, so I'd like to make sure we're all playing with the same contraints.

(Also, I never give a zero without telling the submitter exactly why- they should be aware of why they get the scores they do, both negative and positive. I know that's something I appreciate when I submit.)
