Luna 1 or Metchta was the first Space probe launched from earth. The soviet craft's mission was to collect information on the moon. After completing its task it is expected to have drifted into orbit around the sun somewhere between earth and mars, but there are other theories.

maybe it is because people did not immediately make the connection to the famous luna 1 space probe - Because if they did they would most certainly have voted 5$ due to the tremendous demand for soviet space apparel
