I'ts boxed in. That seems to take away most of it's meaning.

i like the style. feel like the water needs to be lower on the shirt.

I like the illustration, but I agree with ChristopJenkins. It shouldn't be boxed in.

I love the illustration, but I agree with the above. The water could be at the bottom maybe, with perhaps a few extra scraggly trees and leaves in between?

I designed this shirt for boxing, so ideally it *should* be boxed in... or wrestled in, if you prefer wrestling. Heck, you could even golf in it.

I'm stuck on this one. He's trapped and so is the border of the image... if everything around him seemed more free the juxtaposition would be far more clear.

i like the guy drowning in the swirlyness, but maybe lose the sky, just have a moon, and unbox it?

I'ts boxed in. That seems to take away most of it's meaning.

What?

I do get why many people tend to not like t-shirt designs that have squared off edges or are completely "framed," and I do wish that the waves at the bottom of this design blended more organically into the shirt at the ends instead of being boxed off, but how the hell does that take away the meaning of the image?

chemiclaimed on Jun 07 '07
I wouldn't say "takes away the meaning" is right, but the boxiness definitely detracts attention from the art. I'd buy this if you fixed it up a little.

same as above.

ditto- but please fix the tree line- less blobby, more tree-ey

I agree that it's boxy. Square designs on a shirt remind me of shitty movie t-shirts from the early 90s.
But it's a cool design.
Looks a little like The Scream, though.

Albeit I enjoy some framed designs, it doesn't work for this one. The free flowing intensity it taken away by restricting it to the the box. Also, since it's a nightmare freeing it would add to its meaning.

Too boxy, and the water should be reaching the bottom. I love the image, though. Great work. :]

to me the fact that it's "boxed in" could be a symbol of the constricting apect involved with nightmares, especially the recurring ones, you feel trapped in a closed event, arranged purely for you. Where everything is, as it is, in "the box"*. Void of control, void of attatchment, just a wierd sense of vivid distress, which can be controlled, but at the same time can't...

*the reason I choose to use this term loosly is because i feel the connotation of this word has become so much stronger than the actual meaning

To opifan64 if you happen to drop by this page;

I love most of your designs, i think this one really screams, though it only looks like the scream like white widow looks like thai. Change what u wish to change but let other people put there own ideas to work and please continue taking your own path, as i trust someone with such free designs will.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Rosie. I might rework this and submit it again at some point, who knows. To x ___socks, a very late apology for my unnecessarily snarky comment (I was having a bad day).
