So, this is my third design attempt. I'm still learning the ropes and everything about threadless, and this is the first design I've done anything more than a static image.

Wait about five seconds for detail images and/or placement and/or color options.

This has been in the critiques for about a month, so, while all comments are welcome (and probably unavoidable), they are a bit late in the coming. If you can't find the critiques section, I would recommend looking for it. There's a lot of good work there wishing for comments.

But, enough of that. This is my depiction of why theatre managers hate giraffes.

I hope you enjoy

First of all, may I say that I love the concept; however, members on Threadless, not including myself, are particularly hostile towards giraffes at the moment. It's extremely sad and unfair towards the wonderful designs such as this one which properly shows giraffes in a humorous manner.

That said, I wish you the best as this is an awesome piece! Great job. I hope this gets printed, and I will wear it with pride if it wins.

I kind of like it. Lot of giraffes around here, though. Is there a giraffe contest I wasn't aware of? There were two giraffe tees printed during the summer sale. I think the loch ness monster needs to make a come back. Anyway, I digress... 3

Gah! Another Giraffe! Yea, good design, and it's clever, but bad timing I'd say.

Somehow I think I would like this with a bottom/side placement...

like it in the middle, on the grey or orange.

So, Giraffes and Silhouettes seem to be out at the moment. It was poor timing, and, in some part, I blame the threadless people for making me post it when I did.

Only kidding. It did take a bit longer than usual to go through the pending process, and by then, I had had time to vote a good bit on other designs that are up, and the two elements that make this design likeable are currently overdone.

HOWEVER, that said. I like giraffes. I'm going to be one for halloween, Lion King Style (if you haven't seen the broadway play, look up images on google, it's amazing!)

So, I hope that this is well-received, although I accpet that it's likely that everyone is bummed out. But alas. I'd wear it! So... VOTE FOR ME! XD

This appeals to me, because I am short and giraffes have driven me away from movie theaters many a time. The idea of this is cool, if you revise it at some point consider putting the curtain on both sides (and coloring the curtains dark red, if possible). I think it would add to the sense of being trapped in the theater behind something huge.

Ha! I want this, if only because I've been the giraffe that's been sitting in front of mjoo! (Sorry mate!)

I do think a warmer colour would help.
NThisStyle_10_6
NThisStyle_10_6 on Jun 05 '07
Mjoo, the reason that the curtain is only one one side is for balance within the image. If it were on both sides, it would be too heavily weighted to the right side, and would look amiss.

The idea of making the curtains red is a good one that I will take into consideration. However, I like to use as few colors as possible, for no apparent reason (which is why there's only a light black and a dark black in this design)

Thanks for the comments, though.

Ah, this is where we differ. I love when one side of the image is heavier than the other, it makes my eyes travel. I respect that you feel differently, though. Thanks for responding!

I love the giraffe and I don't think they are out, look at what is selling out. In just a few days a giraffe shirt sold out.

I love the concept, even if giraffes are "out" or whatever at the moment.

The design, however feels like it's missing something to me... like maybe there should be something implied on the stage or... yeah I dunno.

I like it and I like that the curtain is only on one side, it feels like you're only showing a half row, which makes sense..

Feels sorta MST3K....

NThisStyle_10_6 on Jun 06 '07
It would feel more MST3K had it been robot puppets and a creepy guy instead of people and a giraffe, though.

Good show. It's one I'd like to see more of.

I'd be pretty pissed if I were behind the giraffe. Especially because I'm wee. But, nonetheless I love the design!

The dark grey looks really good -- it's probably my favorite. There's a small image of it here .

Looking back, I wish that I'd taken the extra second and a half to put the image on the dark grey in the image that I uploaded.

The orange was my instinct color, but once I started looking at it on the other ones, the blue and the grey really add something for the mood.

Personally, though, I like them all.

And I think I prefer the side placement, but it's really 100% y'all's opinion that counts.

I seen it as Chess pieces too. Quite like that idea.
That the Queen is out infront or something.
I don't know.
I like the artwork, not so much the idea.

wow it looks so much better then when i first critiqued it :) good job :) the curtain is kinda a sharp edge which people hate, but you fixed that on the bottom :) good job :) 3

i wish the side placement was the other side, then it wouldn't look so cut off at the edge of the curtain cause it would sweep around :) fyi

I love giraffes. I would have liked it in color though, and it would be funnier showing people sitting behind him in the next row....maybe with angry looks on their faces. :) great concept
NThisStyle_10_6
NThisStyle_10_6 on Jun 10 '07
Cantstop: I dont' think that the curtain makes the box like the whole screen did. It helps to balance the image so that the giraffe doesn't feel just out there for no reason (and awkward compositionally), and it flows away from the design in much the same way that the deco lines on the bottom do.

Janell: In the original designs that I submitted for critiques, the whole thing was a line-drawing on black that I originally preferred. I was talked into using the sihouette, and have come to like it more than the original, as it morphed. Also, in order to show the faces of anyone behind the row with the giraffe, I would have had to have turned the whole design around, which could have been effective. As it is, though, the idea is that you, the person looking at the shirt, are sitting behind the giraffe and the portion of the screen that he covers is occluded.

Thanks for the comments!

NThisStyle_10_6
NThisStyle_10_6 on Jun 11 '07
Peckish: Droping the curtain (I had it that way for a long time in critiques) puts the whole image off-balance. If I were to drop the curtain, it would be uncertain as to why there were people sitting in a row in the middle of (a t-shirt) nowhere, and it would be less aesthetically pleasing to look at.

Thank you for your comment, though.

Oh, and the rest of you after that: It's not my fault everyone else has been submitting giraffes. Please don't take it out on me because of them. Score me as you will, but ignore the giraffe invasion of threadless, sil vous plait.

erin_everlasting on Jun 12 '07
yeh, it seems a lil hard to make out that that's a curtain, and theyre watching a movie, show, whatever. perhaps put another curtain on the other side and make it rele clear that the middle is a screen/stage.
