the tshirt is a bit corny, I wouldn't wear it.
but I believe in stopping that, nonetheless oh, and superbang.. crushing a baby seals head in with a crowbar is so humane. and because yes, thats the real reason why seal hunters kill them. "uh.. WE'RE UH, HELPING THE ECOSYSTEM!!" "yeeeeah, thats right! what he said! No harm done!" you have to already be heartless to do that. I don't give a shit if someone says "its for their own good." they're in it for the money and thats all. |

Couldn't they find a less horrible way to kill seals? Why ? At least get them out of sight before you do so because I'm tired of the pictures. I don't like hating my own species.

i like how the big baby seal being hurt is like a metaphor for the earth because that's what his body turns into. and it shows that by hurting the seal we're hurting the earth.

I read that even though the mortality rate of seal pups in the winter of 06-07 could be 100% (without human interference) the Canadian government still allowed the seal hunt. Ew, what is the logic behind that? $5 |

Actually you should just take off the design all together and try to print those bloody photos on a shirt. Just go ahead and make a new submission. That pixelated bloody seal face would work great. If you are going to leave the design without the bloody photos, I'd like to see some more tears... I mean come on, It's being clubbed to death... with blood. I do love that flowing river of what i can only assume to be blood under that fat seal though. "Son I will protect you no matter what h" I can so relate to that title. |

First of all, I must say that this is a very powerful design. I commend you on taking on an issue that unfortunately is still a problem in our day and age. With that being said, I think it's time for Threadless to stop making so called "humorous" or "fun" shirts and start focusing only on the political message of seal clubbing. Users should only submit designs that include a beaten and or bloody seal to spread this message. In addition, all previously printed designs should include photos of clubbed seals. For example, in the recently printed design "Biggie Was Right" there would be a photo of a bloody seal carcus right in the middle of the graph. I think Biggie would have supported the anti-seal clubbing cause as well. Keep designing great shirts like "Son I will protect you no matter what h" and we can only hope Threadless will revamp their entire approach to only focus on these poor bloody seals.
PS: I agree with CatchyFentoozler to scrap this entire design and merely make a submission of the pixelated bloody seal face. |

i hope everyone against the seal hunt is a vegetarian. See, I don't think so. It would be great if they were, but I'm glad to have the support of non-vegetarians too. I would rather have a meat eater who supports this kind of good cause, then someone who thinks it's alright. |

As for me, I'm really not into shirts that make old women start crying in the streets when they see me walk by (that's what should happen when i push them into the gutter and steal their change purse), but if i was to be wearing a tee involving a seal being clubbed, I'd like it to be ironic and have the singer SEAL on it. I mean, c'mon, after the 3,000th time that day you heard "kiss from a rose" when Batman Forever was released, admit it, you wanted that somewhat talented scarfaced individual clubbed to death. I still love ya FM and love the design and emotional depth of the piece. I just simply wouldn't wear this.

hfa_chica09 Andre is one of my favourite childhood movies.
I still quote it. I have it on VHS. I think the design is a bit confusing in the way the images are over layed. I though the seal in the foreground was a whale at first. Still a very well illustrated image of something you hold passion towards. Nothing wrong with that. |

This is a heartbreaking and, even though clubbing things is not cool at all in my book, I'm just not sure I could wear something that would depress me everytime I looked down at it

Well at least he is only "killing" the baby seal. Im sure there are plenty of things he could be doing for the greater part of a decade that would be much worse for the seal. He could put it in a cage and shock it with a stun gun every 20 minutes or so for 10 years straight. He could break its legs and arms, and nurse it back to health, and rebreak its arms and legs every month. He could burn it with a blowtorch till its skin flakes off in black chunks.
... Seriously. Be thankful all thats going on is a simple club to the head. Sure its horrible, but it could be MUCH worse. |

I agree with erin_everlasting. Definitely an issue worthy of attention, but the shirt is just way too sad for me to wear it. I think if you somehow made a clever commentary on the issue it would work much better for a shirt. Something that spoke against the cruelty of the seal hunt but did not directly depict it.
Aside from that, I absolutely love the artwork. You've conveyed the fear and terror perfectly. The hunter looks a little weird though, in pose and in his face. |

This is a sad subject, for sure. Too sad for me to wear on a shirt, just because I wear happy shirts to improve my mood. I did like the movie about Andre the seal, and yeah, I think its sad what terrible things some humans somehow find the capacity to do.

The problem with the shirt isn't that it's "sad" but that it is only "sad". It is conceptually and politically shallow. Like a "Support Our Troops" magnetic yellow ribbon on one's SUV, it is literally the least you could do to address a terribly complex problem. All it says is "clubbing seals is bad". That's it. Nothing more. It's kneejerk sentimentality amped up with schmaltzy anthropomorphism.
I'm reminded of the Simpsons episode in which Marge is in a community art exhibition and one of the paintings displayed is of a unicorn standing before a scene of environmental destruction with a tear rolling down its cheek and the word "WHY?" written across the top. It's naïve, sentimental, and contributes nothing to a solution. You would be better served to direct your political energy into real action and your artistic energy into beauty and funny things. The world needs more of that. |
