FRICKINAWESOME on Apr 14 '07 Very interesting collage for once on this site...i don't really like how the building s and picture just end at the top of the design, and the design reminds me a bit of "Destroy NYC" and (sorry if this sounds too sensitive or ignorant) a bit of the pictures back when 9/11 happened of clouds of dust running amok through the buildings and streets of the city. Still, a really nice color contrast here and idea...

i think this design is awesome and would be excelent on a shirt, possibly change the colors of the flowers so that they look less like fire, however i couldnt see how anyone would relate this shirt to 9/11. i belive that copy and paste on some things is ok when it comes to such intracascies(?) as this design.

I'm afraid that with the billows being red and orange, "fire" is going to be the first thing that comes to most people's minds, especially as they approach you from far away when you're wearing it. I don't see how anyone could *help* relating this to 9/11, if they've seen those videos of people running from clouds of dust that billowed out between the buildings... just like this.
Could the flowers be a different color? Then the intent would be clearer. |

It's funny, before now, I had never really thought of the 9/11 connection, but I can definitely see people's concern. The flowers could definitely be a different colour if Threadless felt that would be needed to have this printed, these are just my preferred (and origianl) colour scheme.
The shirt is meant to more of a meld between city life and nature, and how coexisting could be so beautiful. As for the copy/paste comments, the original wasn't so repetitive, but it needed more for the shirt design to feel right, and mixing up the bird shape wasn't working at all in my opinion. The repeated shape needs to be there to give the birds flow and movement. Plus I think it's obvious that I didn't just copy and paste for the whole artwork, it's a small element of the piece. I think the work is beautiful. I didn't think 9/11 myself (it's obviously not the twin towers) but I did think fire and that wasn't really a bad thing. I think it speaks volumes of the effect of 9/11 that from now on every burning building has a 9/11 connotation

Good use of a photo and design. It's very accessible and plays well on the eyes.
Good use of collage. Ignore the haters, if there are any. Threadless comes and goes with phases of design and it's quality stuff like this that, I hope, pushes it into the next phase. Consider bumping it up towards the shoulder. Bottom heavy is just that: bottom heavy. I'd also like to see the design on all your colors, not just the swatches. |

The swatches are actually the colours that are in the design. I was having a problem getting my gifs/swfs under the size limit for submission, otherwise I would have shown some others.

It's beautiful but the colors look like fire. Maybe use green with red or yellow? The birds first reminded me of the scene in Day After Tomorrow but after reading your explanation I can see the meld of city and nature.

I think it speaks volumes of the effect of 9/11 that from now on every burning building has a 9/11 connotation My comment about 9/11 wasn't meant to be a stupid generalization about buildings and fire, to me it looks almost EXACTLY how the dust coulds weaved their way through and around the citiy's labyrinth of tall buildings, almost chasing the people trying thier best to get away from it. It's much more specific to the 9/11 images, because i didn't think fire when i saw this, but those dust clouds. I still enjoy this design tho, it's just not something i'd wear. |

I love your Vision.......I would definitely buy it regardless of color. I would love to see it in a girl's version, maybe a fitted cami with the building right on your torso...that would give it even more movement for those of us with curves. Keep those creative juices flowing. You ROCK!

I don't see why everything with a resemblence to burning buildings has to be labelled with 9/11. I personally didn't see that at all when I looked at it.

Wow, this is incredibly impressive. Actually reminds me of the kind of graffiti-style my art had back in 8th grade--not to say that this looks juvenile or anything; it's amazing. And the fact that you could only use five colors magnifies the awesome.
I give it a 5$, and if it wins, I'll be first in line requesting a reprint. |

If was a New Yorker I wouldn't be as worried about the "fire" as I am about the giant arrows coming to wreak havoc on the city. The birds are obviously terrified of being eaten by the arrows, not burning.
Anyway, in regards to the whole "is it flowers or is it 9/11?", I never thought 9/11 until it was brought up here. The difference is a lot more clear on the original, if I remember correctly. |

It's a beautiful shirt, but it does really look like fire at first glance. Maybe you could make the shape of the flowers a little more distinct and that might help. Love the shirt anyways though, and again, it's very beautiful! :3

ok love it.
my first thought was there is an explosion down the allys around the building, pushing forward. I dontthink it looks like the buildings on fire at all? as for 9/11? I cannot understant why a building+fire=9/11. people need to move on a bit. the has been alot worse stuff. |

actually i was just talking to patrick, and he said most often the average score is more around a 1.0.. so it does mean that you did a lot better than some!

I'm happy with the result, an average above 2.5 is good in my books. It's impossible to appeal to everyone :)
