Thought it'd be a cool idea to swap the heart out for a rubics cube.

I am debating wether to go with only three colors, or to add some more colors to the cube. To be honest, i like it best as it is, withouth the color-clutter.

... Why that one extra red piece??? 5
Wyronth
Wyronth on Mar 30 '07
There isn't an extra red piece. It looks like the top left piece is a blue piece, and that it's not a solid block on any of the three sides we can see.

CayMike on Mar 30 '07
Good idea but I think it needs some more work - that extra blue piece does distract me.

FYI this is the second work I've seen with a rubiks cube as the centerpiece - starting a trend possibly...

oysteinhusby on Mar 30 '07
Doh, theres an extra piece of blue. Easy fix tho, don't mind that.
Basically, colors of the faces can change easily and i was debating how the cube should look like. Solved or unsolved, three or five colors. Also wether to include the ribs, or just have the spine. Or even just the heart.
Btw: The design is an attempt of being anatomical correct, so the fitting of the design on the shirt is important.
The heart should be placed roughly between the nipples.

Design large: http://folk.ntnu.no/oysteinh/ribslarge.jpg
Heart large: http://folk.ntnu.no/oysteinh/heartlarge.jpg
Spine+heart: http://folk.ntnu.no/oysteinh/spinelarge.jpg

Anyways, comments and voting are greatly appreciated.

the heart is to complicated to be "solved" so this is a great start bust you should deffinatly include the other colors

MagusMaster on Mar 30 '07
I disagree with stardance... the ribs should be there for sure... it makes the shirt.

Love the ribs...I see the extra red as a reference to the heart's original shape. Puppet likes.

While this is well designed, I don't understand specifically WHY these two things go together other than random = good for some people. O, and the rib cage looks like it's wearing the blue ventricle vein as a necktie.

You have no idea how many rubix cubes designs i've seen in the last two weeks. at least 4 of them. I think you did a good job and kudos for being atomically correct (forgive my spelling). But... i like some of the other rubix cube ones better. 3 and no buy.
oysteinhusby
oysteinhusby on Mar 31 '07
Thanks for all the feedback.
Regarding the case of the rubics cubes, this is infact a 80's competition and the Rubics cube had a central role in this era.
I think it's a bit weird giving criticism based on the fact that you've seen other submissions with rubics cube. Basically, you're saying that if one or two already have submitted designs (regardless if they suck(not saying they do)), noone else can use the same theme. Basically then, this competition will run out of things to base designs upon.

FRICKINAWESOME:
Hehe, yeah. I felt the design needed the veins, but if I kept with being anatomically correct, it would've looked weird to just cut them off. So i spun them around the spine.

Im not gonna submit another, "improved" design since i feel this is a make or break design. Hopefully you get the picture and concept, regardless of colors, etc. - or you dont.

I guess the idea of the design is something in the direction of "Rubics cubes had a central role in the 80's, and in several peoples heart - hence a cubic heart"

Anyways, keep up the voting and comments. And don't get me wrong, the critisism is very much appreciated - there is alot of great thoughts that push me forward in designing.

I like the idea but dont like the ribs. i would buy it if it was just the cube as a heart. looking forward to seeing the improved design you mention. Good choice of colors!!

If you think rubiks cubes, breakdancers, and boomboxes were the only things to come out of the 80s, you may be correct.

Interesting... creepy and a little on the eccentric side, but I still find it cool.
However, I'm not sure the majority would wear it.
If you care for that.

I think this is a pretty good execution of the concept, but I think it needs to lean a bit more to the believable,...i.e. the ribs coming around to the front...
oysteinhusby
oysteinhusby on Apr 02 '07
Happytimeharry:
The model(with the hair) is just a model, and not part of the design :-)

Artbrains:
Yeah, i did try to include the front ribs in the designprocess, but it did not look that good. At least, my attempt of it :-)

I'm not really pleased with the fact the "cubic heart" is in front of the ribs. Also, the extra blue square and extra red square annoy me. If you look at a Rubik's Cube, you'll notice the same color will never touch on the same cube, so, it doesn't really make much sense to me. I wouldn't wear this shirt as is. But if you fix it, I might. Probably not, though.

3 because it's than some.

Actually, it is the back ribs.
Concerning the colors, I can see they are wrong.
I won't resubmit, since the changes are minor. If it ever were to be printed, it's easy to change it.

I love it, and totally want a version of it, but (and I feel like an ass for saying this) it isn't anatomically correct. I think accuracy would add greatly to this wonderful idea.
(and yes, I made sure to check before saying any of this)

what is the blue on the shoulders? maybe i'm just really bad at interpreting designs...but it seems odd.

otherwise, i really like the concept. its much better than the neon colors and leg warmers everyone else is doing.

maybe the cube should be behind the ribs..
and the perception of the cube is kinda weird.. maybe its just me, but its kinda on a weird angle.
nice concept though..

I love rubics cubes. I love this shirt. The way the artery and vein is wrapped is the only thing I would change.
Sinareo

Oh my freaking goodness... did you not get the memo that the Rubik's Cube is being overplayed? On top of that, the whole "human anatomy" thing has been getting overplayed, too! I gave all the Rubik's Cube designs a bad score, and majority of the anatomy subs a bad score, too. Guess what this will be?

Good grief.
pixievix
pixievix on Apr 05 '07
I agree about losing the ribs--make the veins/arteries come out of the cube in similar positions to how they come out of a heart & you'll have the biological angle. And I'd definitely mix up the colors. But spectacular kitsch concept.

the rubik's cube:
it should be unsolved because the heart is a complicated thing to understand and how it works with love and such and why people feel the way they feel. And since it is taking the place of the heart, make it as complicated as possible.

But I like the design and everything of it so far.
do not change the ribs, i happen to like them
