About my design

by Matt of 7and34
This artwork is based off a famous totem pole that I walked by in Ketchikan, Alaska. Kajuk refers to the bird that rests on top of the eagle and the wolf in this relic of Thlinget Chief Kian. I am always fascinated by the dual nature of many forms of tribal art, as it can be both beautiful and frightening at the same time. This particular version was designed for Sagestone shirts, as I like the mix of muted tones. The brighter-colored shirts looked too much like "summer camp" to me. Anyway, hope you find it worth a view. Thanks.

Love the colors. Not a big fan of the placement, but that's more of a personal taste thing.

great colors - the design could be cleaned up a bit though. 3

The GIF image does look a little more rastered on some edges than the original. The artwork is actually made into vector art and is sharper...if that's what you were referring to.

This looks like it could be a staple at any Country and western store. Right nixt to the howling wolf.

This is not for me.

I understand. I myself happen to be more of a "bucking bronco" kinda guy in that same store, but I figured "hey, let's switch it up for those rootin' tootin' cowboys." Rrrrright.

I had an awesome time salmon fishing there...Knudson Cove I believe it was. Very beautiful place to wander around and see. Glad I managed to hear from some locals on this site with this. Thanks for dropping in!

Nice colours, but there isn't any of your own art in this, other than the colour choices, and the fact that you took the photo (presumably). It might as well be an autotrace of the Statue of Liberty, Michelangelo's David, or the Winged Victory of Samothrace. It doesn't convey anything of yourself or your own ideas, leaving it pretty dull and unengaging.

I see, and yes I did take the photo. Question: do people who take photographs not create art? And I totally disagree with your statement about the technique. While it may not represent your definition of creativity, I did rework something (adding vector shapes and textures, trees, etc.) that inspired me to suit my liking. While I respect your opinion, I think you have a slightly narrow view of art. Thanks for your thoughts.

I adore the colors....but, really, all the design is a JUST a totem pole. I wish there was more overall impact.

Thanks to everyone who voted and shared thoughts. This was a good experience to hear the likes and dislikes. I'm looking forward to expanding my technique and doing something more ambitious next time. Easy goes.
