Nice design, but the yellow teeth are scary and draw too much attention away from the rest of the image. Lose the yellow teeth!

The old-school scratch marks are a bit weird -- But it's an excellent illustration!

i like this whole 1880's thing. but i like the first 1880's one much more than this.
this is still one of the better submissions in this category though.

Yeah I like it all 'cept for the yellow teeth which are moderately disturbing:-)

But hey, I guess that's probably what people's teeth DID look like back then...
FourtyFour
FourtyFour on Mar 28 '07
so there IS another one with this theme, oops....

but the teeth will be in foil, so they won't be yellow, they will SHINE.
but I guess they are a little gross.

the bicycles of the 1880s had one large big wheel and then a tiny one. if you changed that i would so buy it.

I get your concept and the displaying of grillz. I like the teeth provided they are done in gold foil. What other way would you illustrate grillz? Is there a way to illustrate the "twinkle" of a bright set of grillz? I'm not hung up on the way they are now. I still think the notion is clear and well illustrated I love it. $5. Love the whole concept.

Here's the other 1880's sub

Interesting design, but I'd like to see the rest of the front wheel, if possible. Bike designs are always a favorite in my house.

pretty cool. I wouldn't say to loose the gold teeth because then the title is meaningless, but the half-wheel is really awkward

I don't think grillz were around in the 80's or time period the movie takes place in...they are more of a modern 90's and up invention....if you wanted to associate this old-timey feel with the chain-craziness of the 1800's, why not give them some gigantic RUN DMC chains, and really show the bling off (even if the bling is in gold foil, i think some lines coming off the buttons and such that demonstrate the shininess of the object would be a nice touch) moreso than what is going on here. But like i said, lose the grillz and chain them up more, with more rings and things as well. 3.
IvanDashSmith
IvanDashSmith on Apr 01 '07
I agree with Frickin on the chain thing. I wouldn't add unnecessary chains, but especiall on the front left guy, go to town with his pocket watch chain.

Also, the elbow of the front left guy, either add it in or take out his hand on the bar.

Other layout issues I'm having: What is the thing coming off the left foot of the guy on the bike? In the original I would imagine its some kind of device for the old bikes, but it doesnt read at all. There is also a rogue line under the back tire. And there is a tangent where the pants of the right guy meet the front tire's splashguard. Also, the back tire is above the front guys foot, so it's technically floating, but whatev.
I also think there is too much gold sheen coming off the bike in it's highlights, when you could pump it up so much if it was more prominent in the spokes, in the splash guards, etc. as whole pieces of the bike, like the whole items of the dudes' garb, rather than highlights.

One last thing, yes they have grillz. But I would recommend only giving one or two guys full grillz, and maybe giving another guy a few gold teeth. Even if it was in gold, the all gold teeth on all the guys, when there isn't much other gold on them, is probably what's throwing a lot of people off.

All that said, I REALLY like the concept. It made me laugh out loud, and with a little work I think it will really be even better.

Oh yeah. Gold ink, or accentuate the grillz by drawing glinty marks. Otherwise it just look likes bad teeth.

I like this one MORE than the other 1880s one. This one has a better concept. I would definitely finish off the wheel but that's an easy fix.

too many invisible parts, the wheel disappears in the front, missing hands and arms. Sadly i dont really like how they were drawn. Good idea, but could have been pulled off better.
Shanimal
Shanimal on Apr 02 '07
This was a good idea, but i think it was poorly pulled off. Half the front wheel is missing, hands and arms are segmented/missing and I dont really like how the people were drawn. The way the hands are is confusing as well. Sorry.

would be even cooler if it was a really old bike, one with a huge wheel as well as a tiny one.
