hate the cut off arms
Robsoul
   Robsoul on Mar 30 '07
And how should he remedy that STARDANCE? I always see you quip BS remarks instead of offering constructive criticism. 1) You don't design 2) You are rude to a lot of ppl 3) Try to be more constructive because these memebers put a lot of time into their designs. Offer a god-damned solution instead of a snide remark in the future please.

agree with Robsoul ......... thanks rob.......
judeo ,censorship does hurt and its very selfish thing decided by a bunch of few people who think they know it all and rule the masses........ freedom of expression cannot be stopped ... cheers

I also agree. No need for the curt remarks. If thats your opinion, fine. If you have to say it - say it politely. I think the cut of arms are fine. I like this as an illustration, but it doesn't really convey censorship IMHO.

I do agree with the remark about the abruptly cut off arms. Perhaps you could fade them into the design rather than simply having them begin. Not entirely sure how that might look thouhg. Still, I think the idea is good. (:

i like the idea... but I definitely agree with the comments about the arms. I don't like them being cut off. I would wear the idea on a shirt but just not this design.
judeo18
judeo18 on Mar 30 '07
I knew before I posted this that the cut off arms would be an issue, I just wasn't sure how to resolve it. maybe a halftone fade would've been better, but I don't know if it would match the style of the illustration.
Lalala-Lauren
Lalala-Lauren on Mar 30 '07
As per the arms... you could make the jacket the same color as the shirt and outline the arms, OR make the jacket a pinstripe pattern using the shirt as one of the colors...??
Hrut
Hrut on Mar 30 '07
I like it. Would probably add it to my small collection of socio-political shirts. Lala-Lauren's arm solution could work nicely. I'd probably wear it cutoff arms or no.

quaycur on Mar 30 '07
if you have a halftone on the arms then somethoing else in the picture should have it too. however, i already own fantastic typewriter. sorry.

I like this a whole bunch. The typewriter looks AWESOME.
The cut-off arms didn't really bother me.
Nice job.

Wouldn't wear it, but it would be amazing as a poster. And it's great to have a tee about censorship. Such and important issue.

milyn0206 on Mar 30 '07
Well first of all Robsoul is an asshole. And then second of all I like this design but I agree with the whole cut-off arms thing. And maybe you could try adding something more to it (I'm not really sure what) to show that its being censored, instead of it just looking like a typewriter that isnt typing.
krishva
krishva on Mar 30 '07
I don't like the nails. This would be great if it was just the typewriter and arms and nothing else--the nails don't really portray your message well, and they just make an image I'd otherwise love to wear into one I would feel uncomfortable wearing.

FRICKINAWESOME
FRICKINAWESOME on Mar 31 '07
Well, the cut-off arms work for the concept you are going for with censorship...but if you want them to look more natural, the sawed off or uneven watercolor style applied to the edges of the arms make them look more realistic. Oh....and to add to the point you are trying to make, i suggest that half of the paper in the typewriter should look like typed words in normal paragraph form, but ALL of the words should be blacked out like you see on sensitive information forms.
OlliRudi
   OlliRudi on Mar 31 '07
i don't think the cut off arms look that bad really...after all, they are rounded. what i wouldn't approve of is if they stopped as iff they were cup off by some invisible canvas edge, that annoys me every time.

other than that, i think this is a great illustration. the message isn't that clear, but it also works as a surreal image. I'd like to see it bigger on the shirt with a lower placement, so it could have some wraparound(say, the arms could start off slightly to the side of the shirt)
descartes
descartes on Mar 31 '07
I scored it 5$
I love the message more than the design, but hey, if you can improve on that, all the better.

no you are the ass hole. Robsoul is a great designer with a good point that he stated in a reasonable manner.

I really like the design, but just from looking at the image I wouldn't have guessed the intended message at all. I think you should work at it though because it's a great idea.

I really like it. but those arms, somethings gotta be done with them. maybe a fade out like people were saying or lengthen them to the end of the shirt? and I'd like to see some other color options.

hmm... i don't really get the censorship vibe from it until i read the title. oh well. maybe i'm just slow lol.

Mama Young on Apr 02 '07
I think maybe the cut off arms could be a part of the point of censorism (wait is that a word?) Or maybe just move the cut off arm part closer to the edge of the shirt. But, Im not much of an artist at all, so my suggestions might not make sense. LOL :) But, I like this shirt! I can see H.S. journalism kids wearing it!
GreenGourd
GreenGourd on Apr 02 '07
The title is important to the design...add it?
aumphalos
aumphalos on Apr 02 '07
If you did add the title, what about having it typed on the paper coming out of the typewriter?

I would make the ends of the arms ragged or "sawed off." I think you're right that a fade would not fit stylistically, but the smooth edges make them look amputated. Thus, make 'em ragged - like "cut-aways" are illustrated in instruction manuals. (Um, does that make sense?)
knight of the garter
knight of the garter on Apr 02 '07
I like it.

I know this is stupid and sorry to be dense, but the red on the fingers, is that area that wasn't colored in and so showing through the shirt color, or are the fingers bleeding (signifying the pain/injury caused by censorship?).
At first I thought it was nail polish and thought you were making a feminist statement about female speech and literature.
Anybody wanna help me out?

Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Apr 03 '07
Very nice. I'd $5 it if you added the suggestion about an entirely-censored paragraph (or maybe only retaining words like 'the' and 'and').
fouchnickens
fouchnickens on Apr 03 '07
I like the graphic elements and overall style of this t-shirt, although I didn't pick up on the nails or blood initially -- which made me question how this was related to censorship.

Instead of just cutting off the arms, why don't you have them wrap around the bodice of the shirt to a person or classic reporter (hat with press card stuck in the ribbon) who has been gagged and bound. If you really wanted to emphasize the censorship point, you could have the names of journalists who have stood up to censorship typed on the page (and crosssed out?). It's a great thought provoker, judeo18!
sparklypants
sparklypants on Apr 04 '07
i agree that something should be on the paper, whether it is related to things that have been previously censored, or it is just some crossed out phrases. It could be the title of a famous censored work, as if the writer was about to begin, etc.

although the arms look a bit odd, i think the message of the shirt makes up for it.

nice idea, but it's a little too subtle
mayor mccheese
mayor mccheese on Apr 04 '07
I agree. I'm a journalist, so I love what you're trying to convey and I pretty much like anything with a typewriter in it. But I have to say, without the title, I wouldn't understand what the nails were about. although maybe a little more streaming blood, the blood on the fingers looks a little bit like nail polish. I love your style though and the old skool typewriter.
