I like it. I think I would like it better with the tree on the front, but still...very nice.

i like it.. but its not... threadless.

I'd like the whole design on the front, and on a darker shirt. 3 for now, but a $5 if it was on the front and maybe on chocolate.

ya, definitely experiment with colors and placements, i would love this with the tree in front. beautiful artwork, though.

and i don't get this "not threadless" stuff...we vote on what we like, so don't we therefore make what threadless is? isn't that the whole point?

Hmm.

every "not threadless" comment needs to just....disappear. that's probably why threadless even had a contest devoted to finding something that wasn't traditionally what got printed but was still good artwork and a good concept. this has both.

good job, guy.

Perhaps tree on font and symbols on the back?

I like the tree, but the characters make me think of all those really cliche tattoos. Not on white.

i like the tree but rather having it on the front, and maybe in a different colour shirt

palm)

I, personally, dont' like characters on my tees. More often than not, it deviates from the impact of the design. There have been some artworks that have cleverly integrated characters as a part of the illustration that worked for me, but, again, it's a rare thing.

The tree is well drawn, but I don't feel that it's a strong stand alone either. Either integrate the characters into the illustration or somehow make the tree radiate your message without the characters.

Otherwise, it's just another generic design with words blatantly explaining what somebody sees...except that it's in another language. I'm Chinese, it just makes it more flat because it's almost like...here is a tree, it means life and art.

But I quite like it, I love trees and this one in particular, so cheers!

genious tree!
but on the back...!?
put the back on the front and let the actual fron design be.

I think the tree should be on the front too. It is an awesome design.

Piradical, the Chinese were doing bonsai long before the Japanese.

The tree design is nice, a little dull on its own though, and not especially bonsai-like. The trunk is a good example of an "informal upright" design, but it would be very unusual to see the leaves trimmed in that way. Generally there are not leaves near the central trunk. What if you added the pot? The pot is an essential part of any bonsai work. (You should see what the tree guys pay the clay guys to make 'em!)
My Dad's hobby/obsession is bonsai/ceramics so I've heard way too much about them. I'd love to see a really good design with a bonsai that I could give to him. To make it on Threadless, you'll have to make it look different than what you would get as the official shirt at a Japanese festival.

the tree is well done, i agree it belongs on the front. put the characters on the sleeve or the back if they're on the shirt at all.

agreed about the need for a pot. the concept would be so much more recognizable.

I love the tree. If you're going to have the characters, don't put them on both sides.

I just don't care for the characters. I think this tree is lovely, but it is too plain on natural.
KillBrittany
KillBrittany on Mar 22 '07
i agree with the plain part. and the colors just dont do anything for me. its too bland. it dosnt come accross as really original either.

better if the tree was on the front, and the symbols on the front-sleeve or something.
but still very very nice.

yeah i agree w/ the person up at the top. it's really good, just not threadless.

this is something i would wear...the placement would have to be different...and if u move the tree to the front do not put it in the center of the shirt!

you could make the leaves on the tree out of the characters, i think it could work quite nicely
Matt20845
Matt20845 on Mar 23 '07
tree should be on the front! people wear jackets and then u cant see the design on the back! so its kinda pointless for the main design to be there. i like it though

ditch the stuff on the back - leave only the tree on the front and then you're talking!!
ChaosCupcake
ChaosCupcake on Mar 24 '07
It's take the kanji or whatever off...it's nice, but isn't what I'd expect to see on Threadless. The tree though--that's really lovely.

tree, front, characters, back. tree's good, though it needs to look more like a bonsai. and bonsai are usually tiny, in pots or trays, whatever you want to call it.

As many have said - tree on front. Characters, take them or leave them. . .

Agree that it is reminiscent of the bad tats. Plus, the pocket location never does it for me on girlie shirts. And I'm a girl, so

or just the tree by itself..
