The Jolly Brewer
We all want cheap meat, we all produce too much waste. Why not kill 2 birds with one stone?

i would like this much better if there was some colour...
it's kinda "blah" in grey tones...
The Jolly Brewer
The Jolly Brewer on Mar 12 '07
It was deliberate to not have colour in this. I wanted to make it dark as it's a dark subject.

I also wanted to create a kind of normalcy to it, which is why there are the guys having a chat in the front, as we have become immune to the way we produce meat these days... maybe this is not so far off in the future.

um, not bad, not bad, pretty average, quite like it, actually I love it!!!! Excellent!!

Might make some people think before they go and buy crap meat products from the supermarket!

This one caught my eye during the critique process. I like how it has improved. I like the concept behind it. More people should think about where their meat comes from. 5

Good idea! Hook up those piggies!

I agree with the colour critiques. Perhaps a swampy greenish grey or military khaki. Perhaps punch in some color with pinking the pigs. The message is Grrreaat! You might never run out of variations of this subject. High fructose corn syrup pumping up obese kids... It could go on forever.

I guess it could work with pretty much any colour, with darker colours working better. I avoided having pink piggies, I think it could detract a bit...

Love the concept. And by that I mean it kind of disturbs me and scares me, but in a good way. It's very controversial, which is good, but yeah. . .

On a side note, I feel mental and physical pain for those tortured pigs.

I like the guy in the middle of the 3 at the bottom: Leaning againt the pigs relatively "small" leg.

Krycke, I was particularly proud of that touch. That's my favourite part of the whole illustration.

I really like how the pigs seem like they're identical, but you paid good attention to small details--the shape of their tails, especially. Good job.

I like the gray shirt effect; it makes me think of a 50’s educational film. This is kind of like the Simpson’s short where Troy McClure showed Timmy Bovine University (the slaughter house). Even though I love meat and meat products (mmm, liverwurst) I’d still buy this shirt.

Atleast it makes people think. Sometimes people don't think, they just do whatever the hell they want. I make better choices when I am educated about something, that's for sure.

I'm not preaching here, It is a comment on what could be just down the road if we continue to treat animals the way we do. I'm sure if people had the technology to do the above, then they would. I'm not preaching vegetarianism or anything. I love eating meat, but I try and make sure the meat I eat has been raised and killed humanely.

The theme of this competition is Science and Culture. Well we have the science of genetic engineering and the culture of intensive factory farming of animals for meat. I'm merely combining the two. Hopefully in a way to make people think, but also in a slightly offhand way, which is pretty much how most of the western world consider the origins of the meat they eat.
The Loracle
The Loracle on Mar 19 '07
Grossman - I don't think this is preaching, I absolutely agree it's a comment. It's also a great illustration, why not combine issues and art?

A question for you...what would the world be like without people with opions that they are encouraged to share?
