This is great. I do think there's too much red, though. I'd rather see just a punch of red in the man's gown. Also maybe smaller hermit crabs... it just looks like too much competing for prominence. I love the style and the colors.

You have illustration skills, but I wish the shell next
to the human hermit contained some elements that communicated that the guy actually lives in the shell. Right now it looks like he's just standing next to a shell. I really like the dot patterns for the sand and the dot highlights on the crab body parts. |

Yeah, what helo said. It's beautifully done, but the guy doesn't look like like a hermit. If the last shell looked like he lived in it (like a cave) and his clothes were tattered, the concept would be clearer, I think.
But it's really good. I love the way you did the highlights and shadows. |

I agree with that comment way above - gimme something that shows the guy lives there. I mean, I get it when I know the title.. but if you add some footprints or slides in the sand that indicate the guy left the shell, I think it'd convey the idea better visually.

Great Illustration!...My only crit on this one would be to perhaps make the third shell more of a makeshift home that you might see a beach hermit living in to tie it in even more. Otherswise the overall concept is beautiful, I love the shadows and would still buy it!!!!
