i think you did it the wrong way, the sporks should be on the top right and bottom left... the fork should be bottom right

In order for the offspring to turn out this way, both parents have to be sporks. If one parent is a spoon (aa) and one is a fork (AA), all of the offspring would be sporks (Aa)

If it was more clear whether a spork phenotype was caused by heterozygocity or homozygous recessive, I would 5 it. but the punnett square as is, it doesnt make sense to me. I -do- love the idea though

I'd $5 it but the genetics are wrong... I agree with everybody else, make it correct and I'll be all over that. Resub with spork parents and fork/spoon/spork offspring or something and I'll be all over that shirt.

this is an amazing idea and yet the genetics isnt right. if it was incomplete dominance they would all be sporks. SS = spoon Ss = spork ss = fork therefore SS x ss = 100% Ss hahha but besides that id definatly buy it if the genetics were corrected. |

Y'know what, I graduated with a BS in biology, and I still think this is funny. We need a testcross to determine the genotype! It may not be "exact", but I love the idea.

yeah, I don't mind the idea that the genetics aren't perfect, and it did take me a second to realize what I was looking at (from high school biology... 10 years ago!) but I really do love the idea! 5!

The lack of "correctiveness" kills the joke. Sorry. It's a great base but I wouldn't laugh at a joke someone told wrong so I wouldn't buy a shirt with an incorrect joke display. If you resub it correctly then I'll give you a $5.

Seems like there's a lot of biologists on this site. When I saw it I just thought it was a weird place setting. Makes me think other people will think the same if this is worn in public; many won't get it. Interesting idea though.

In this first step all 4 should be sporks. It's when two sporks have babies the fun starts. Then you will have one diagonal with sporks (upperleft and lowerright or upperright and lowerleft) and the other two squers should be fills with a fork in one and a spoon in the other.

Yeah, this only works if both parents are sporks and therefore have a heterozygous allele pair. Let's say the spoon allele is S and the fork is s (ignore the fact they're codominant), the offspring would look like this...
SS Ss Ss ss SS = spoon Ss = spork ss = fork The way you have it now, as it's been stated, all four crosses would be sporks, which also works. Call me a traditionalist but I like my science to be right, especially if I'm going to shell out for a genetic t-shirt like this. And don't get me wrong, I definitely would. Oh, one more thing: for the sake of argument, it's "Punnett's Square." |

i totally dig this, but just make them all sporks, and the design itself doesn't really do it for me...it just seems a little bland. maybe spice it up a little (is possible), and i would 100% buy it.

I'm torn.
On the one hand, this is hilarious as-is, but there's that nagging "but it isn't right!' that just kills it. On the other, making it correct would make it less funny, but at least I'd be able to enjoy it without interruption from the douchebag party-crasher in me. I'd rather see it corrected, but you still get a 5 for the concept - now just fix it, 'cause I wanna wear it ;) |

punnett squares don't actually work that way - you'd have to choose if forkdom or spoondom was the dominant trait. If spoons were, the top would look like S S and the side would be s s, so the offspring would all be sporks.

I think the 'funnest' part about wearing this shirt would be watching people try to figure it out. A great way to find out how smart yourfriends really are. I would rock this is Bio class for sure.

The easiest way for you to handle the problem is just make this one step futher... (I guess you have red the problem with your design already (like a 100 times) so let us not point that out again). My suggestion is to switch them all to sporks then place one spork outside the square at the bottom and one outside on the right (maybe with an arrow in direction to it or something). Then you make a new breathing square with these two sporks in a new square that has its upper left corner near the first squares lower left corner. Then you will get tow crossing-squares: one with all sporks and one with 2 sporks, one spoon and one fork... Did you get it? Hope you will resub this 'cos I love this idea! |

I love the idea, and would buy if for sure. But since I acutally work in a DNA gynotyping lab I would be outcasted as an idiot if I wore it. I really hope you can come up with something correct. Maybe put the letters next to the parent spoon and fork like it was listed earlier in the comments.

I think __snowshoe is totally right that you could just use the four squares in the middle and have it be enough, because if you made corrected it, you'd either have to make both parents sporks (kinda boring), or making all the children sporks (also kinda boring). If you leave out the parents, then you can have the four squares, and the bio nerds would know it's parents were sporks, the non-bio nerds wouldn't really care what the parents were and still think it's cute, and it'd be a much cleaner visual.
You'd still need to move the right spork up, though, regardless. |

Also, if you make it just the four squares, you can change the placement so it's a little more resolved, either centered on the chest or move it around with more freedom than the larger image can move.

Ss, none of them would be sporks, they would all be the dominant phenotype (spoon /or/ fork). Proper nomenclature for codominant (blending) traits uses a common capital letter and superscripts to differentiate alleles. AND what?
I'm glad we're all so self-important, and critical of hilarity. *** No way can you take away the parents, then it's just a lame family photo. Then you might as well include all the utensils and put it in the Brady Bunch grid. I love science, and I love that you made science funny, and related to eating, which i also love.
