Have you noticed the modern trend in naming children with what seems to be a random collection of sounds in the bid to create a unique or individual name? Well here is a machine to take all the effort out of the process. Obviously the name won't be right every time.....

Copy reads:
Give Your child a head start in life with an unusual or totally unique name!

Flash reads: Recommended by Movie stars, musicians and pretentious idiots across the globe

Disclaimer at the bottom reads: the name gameŽ accepts no responsibility for any bullying, name-calling, ill-fortune or ridicule brought about by the use of any inappropriate name recommended by the name gameŽ

The design and concept are neat, but I'm not sure that it works well on a t-shirt. The type looks like it gets pretty small.

But I like Sanjaya...and my kid has an unusual name...

I'm just digging myself in deeper here, aren't I?

Unfortunately, I've really seen people with names like Latrina, Sucretts, Taquila, Marijuana, Cocaine, and worse.

Ah, the despair of not being able to find one's name pre-printed on a bicycle mini-license plate! All my life I searched, to no avail. Now legions of others will share my fate, including my own child. I 'm a bad mother.

As far as the shirt colour is concerned. I think this could go on any colour. I thought about just putting it on grey, but was worried it would be too bland. On black, but you'd lose the shadows. So I stumped for Blue as it was fairly bold but not too in yer face. I think maybe grey would work best.

Sometimes it really does seem like people use a process to name their children.

I've met someone whose name was "So'Unique". That's so unique, eh? Also, your daughter's not a princess, and your son is not a prince, and even if they were, dont' name them as such.

I really do love the idea behind your design, but I wouldn't wear it as a t-shirt. From a distance it just looks like a slot machine giving out fortunes. People would need to invade my comfort zone in order to read everything that's on the shirt. That's not something I look for in a t-shirt.

The style of the design also reminds me of the "clever" shirts at gag shops like Spencer's, and that's not really why I come to this website.

Great idea and drawing. I think it's hilarious. However, it's just so hard to have that come across on a t-shirt.

$4 for the idea and illustration, but just so hard to see how this could be worn (sadly... such a great idea, too... dammit.)

I work in an ER, so i see my share of people's names that are so horrible i almost wish they hadn't been born just so i didn't know that thier name existed. My favorite as of late? Neveah. It's the name of some lily white child that came into the ER the other day, and when i asked the mother what the name means, she replied so matter-of-factly like she had been waiting for me to pop that question "o...that's HEAVEN spelled backwards!" I wanted to take her mothering rights away from her that instant and call child services, but i decided against it. All i could muster up saying to her was" well....your child is gonna be really good at anagrams!" Plus, if you reverse heaven and make it in opposite words, doesn't that mean she's really named Hell? Mom woulda been better off naming her kid Lleh.

Anywho, I love the premise of the shirt. I think the whole concept might work better as a slogan "My Modern-Day Stupid Name Making Machine Has Chosen For You...Casidee!" Maybe not. But great idea.
The Jolly Brewer
The Jolly Brewer on Mar 12 '07
That is so funny. Heaven spelled backwards. I think probably the best names I've ever heard are to do with Barry White. If I'm right, his wife is/was called Glodean White, one daughter is called Shaheara.... and best of all, in a little homage to himself, one daughter is called... Wait for it.... Barriana! Genius.

I love this! I don't think it is too complicated for a T-shirt at all, its good to see something you can go up and read! I'd quite like to see it as a gold colour machine on the navy. Tis good!

Another well done illustration of a subject that does not appear to belong on a T shirt. Do people normally stand in front of you for the 27 minutes it would take to read all the elements in this here swell art? It is funny, and somewhat original...but this is Threadless, they make T shirts still, right? This is an awesome college dorm poster.

Superb! I actually think that people WILL stop and take time to look at the t shirt- particularly as the design is so eye catching. Who's to say what's right or wrong for a t shirt design- What one person dismisses as a dorm room poster, i would celebrate as a brillint idea for a t shirt and one which i would wear.

On another note, i know people called Fantastic and Toobig- all to do with how the mum felt when giving birth to them!

Lordshine: Most people that spend appox. 3 seconds to view ads in magazines may not be likely to read a very lengthy T design was my point.

And thus is the beauty of free speech, you are free to share your wrong views, and I'm free to share my wrong views...get it?

I will await to see your photo with this shirt on, THEN I'll rethink my opinion. For the record, the illustration is very well done.

Thanks to everyone who commented on this design. I got 2.61 which I am very happy with for my first 'proper' design. I really enjoyed making it and am glad people appreciate it. I'm not expecting this to be printed, but it's good to know I've made people laugh and my illustration has been complimented. Thanks.

This idea definitely deserves to be on a shirt. Maybe if the machine's "label" was simplified somewhat -- say, a read-at-a-glance font for the "Let Fate Choose...", and losing the really small print.

Oh, and the machine definitely needs a nameplate, like "Name-o-matic 3000" or such.
