Make Godzilla green with envy with this shout out to his nemesis!
Let Godzilla set the city on fire, he cannot do poo about your snappy attire! Promoting the Oh-so-Hip Mothra...and in turn, all Mothra Mothers.
This shirt is flame resistant, just in case though.

The design could look really sharp on a variety of colors, so feel free to make suggestions. We also would consider a small upper back print of Mothra art only.
Let Godzilla rampage and trample...

Word to YOUR Mothra,

howdy all...thx for all the good feedback. to reply to the above:
the "random text" was intended to act as if Mothra was saying the "word to your" text, plus, without that text, the play on words is...well, GONE.

Thanks again, very cool to be in the running with some other great designs!

Super Slothman:

Found on-line "Googling" the words "litigious" & "ToHo"...

What's in a Name?
These days, the answer to the above question usually is "a previously trademarked product or service." The latest bands in town to suffer the wrath of corporate lawyers are Hotwheels Jr. and the Godzilla Motor Company. The latter were contacted by the notoriously litigious Toho company, owners of the enormous lizard of the same name, and while publicist Tammy Blevins says the attorneys "were actually pretty cool" about the matter, allowing the band six months to alter their Web site and make other such adjustments, she admits that she didn't tell them the group would simply be changing their moniker to Gähdzilla Motor Company. "You can't trademark the sound of a name," she explains. The Mattel toymakers, meanwhile, took six years to finally notice the Hotwheels Jr. people, most likely because of a recently acquired Web domain name. "A week later and the CDs would have been sent out to be pressed!" says a Adam Farina, who is instead sending off materials for the new Blackbelt disc under the group's new name, the Action 15. Say, wasn't that the name of Hasbro's original G.I. Joe and Friends line?

hey mmcclernan family: golly! aren't you a couple of research wiz kids?!? i did a little research myself. ON YOU. aside from a few random pictures, here's what immediately floated to the surface:

this is your bio on Threadless:
Maria McClernan is a 36.67 year old girl, has been a member since November 24, 2006, has scored 2965 submissions, giving an average score of 1.44

and, after using my amazing powers of deductive reasoning, i discovered that you are married to none other than Seamus McClernan. odd, since he's the original post regarding the copyright issues of Mothra. Are the two of you THAT bored at home?

here's your husband's bio on Threadless:
Seamus McClernan is a 41.49 year old boy, has been a member since April 23, 2005, has scored 2198 submissions, giving an average score of 2.47.

one thing i noticed about both of your pages here on Threadless is that neither of you have any design submissions. granted, i currently don't either, but i have been a member for about A WEEK. you two have been members for a couple years. and that leads me to believe neither of you have an artistic bone in your bodies. which makes me wonder: "why, oh why, would two people decide to make their opinion on something they know NOTHING about, known? i mean, combined, the two of you have reviewed/scored just under 5,000 design submissions on here. (and here's the kicker) with a combined scoring of about 1.86 (forgive me if i am off by a few digits. i am a right-brainer).

speaking as an artist, if i poured my creativity into a design and then had it voted on as low as the two of you vote, i'd be bummed. granted, i'd still like what i did and be proud of it. and so would many, many other people on this site. because i am good at what i do. at least i CREATED something. oh wait. you've both created something too. a couple of blogs. nice work. real original.

here's a challenge. why don't you two come up with a design together, and submit it? i promise to vote honestly about my reaction to it, and not vote on the design through a drunken Bushmills haze. Which would explain why the two of you have such a low average on scoring the work of others.

happy Lá Fhéile Pádraig you two. stick to the books.

Good work rendering the mothra dude, and I like the colors. Though, there seems to be an over abunandance of design cliches (splatters, targets, floral embellishments, kanjii?) that I could do well without. It's too much, man! 3
mezo
   mezo on Mar 09 '07
p.s., pfah Your resoning is saying that non-artists can't come to this site to give their opinions on what they think looks good. Which is total crap. Without non-artists, artists would not even exist...who would buy our work? Besides, this is a t-shirt purchasing website before it is an Artist's Only club.

Loosen up a bit, will ya?

Thanks mezo, preesh the points you shared. I did try a "cleaner" design, but it just came off looking like mothra was lonely and needed some cliches...delicious, yummy cliches.
Yes, there IS kanji on there as well, just to hit every asian monster cliche.
For the record, I preesh pfah's words, threadless is a great community of like minded folk, it just seems some are stuck on blabbing instead of scoring and moving on to the next.
thanks again.

get a clue design on Mar 09 '07
p.s. for the record, the cliches are mothra inspired: insect-like lines (floral/antenna), targets (conjures up war, fighting, etc.), and mothra splatter, eww. and kanji? nuff said.
mezo
   mezo on Mar 09 '07
Fine. But I still think you have TOO MANY things going on in the background. It draws attentiona away from the mothra itself, who should be the star of the show.

And I don't know what this 'preesh' means. But I should stop blabbing and move on to the next.

pfah on Mar 09 '07
dear mezo...
you said "without non-artists, artists wouldn't even exist". after typing a comment like that, you've got the nerve to call my opinion "total crap"? pUHlease. don't get me wrong, non-artists are valuable to the art community, but the art we artists create is totally NOT dependent on them alone. other artists support art more than non-artists do. we'd exist regardless if a non-artist ever stepped foot inside a gallery, museum or bought a tshirt. and i understand that this is a public website that anyone can access and leave commentary, but have read some of the opinions of non-artists? they are rediculous. their homes are probably full of wal-mart art and faux paintings that have been printed instead of actually painted. you're an artist (and a pretty damn good one if i don't say so myself) so you should understand the point i am making here. you keep up the great work and actual artists who truly appreciate solid design will buy it. it makes it mean more that way. and yeah, if a few non-artists buy it too, that's all the better. taking people's money is never a bad thing.
yours in design...

pfah: "you two have been members for a couple years. and that leads me to believe neither of you have an artistic bone in your bodies. which makes me wonder: "why, oh why, would two people decide to make their opinion on something they know NOTHING about, known?"

There are alot of people on Ol' Threadless who find it exciting to google. I've had a few experiences with the whole "your design resembles the one in the 1998 issue of this Japanese magazine that no one's ever heard of and you're a douche for copying it" comments. Trust me, that's not why I'm a douche and I don't copy artwork, but it seems that the most hateful comments come from submissionless accounts.

Three Theories
1. These are alternate accounts that people use to side-step any retaliation against their own comments.
2. They aren't artists and are jealous of other people's abilities to produce interesting designs.
3. They are snotty twelve-year-olds who get beat up at school and use Threadless as a venue to prove that they are truly Level 60 Dark Elves and have a +9 Submission-Slaying knife.

Dear Mr. "pfah",

The point that my dearest Wife was trying to make (and providing evidence for) was that a Submission like the one above would most likely cause Threadless.com problems - and why would anyone want that?

I've already heard from an Editor friend that an image of Godzilla among a group of monsters in a single panel of last week's "Mighty Avengers #1" has aroused ToHo's ire.

As to WHY neither of us have made any Submissions ourselves?
Where do you suggest we find the time?
What do you know of us? Or our schedules?
My Maria has a successful career in Real Estate and I'm in currently transitioning from the Music Business to Film making.
(Be sure to catch dear family friend Maria Doyle-Kennedy in "The Tudors" on Showtime!)

You failed to notice that our two oldest children also enjoy Scoring designs on Threadless.

My son Quinn (a 2nd degree Purple-belt) is already being courted by both Warner Brothers and Island Records.

In the past, I've had Art Directors ask my opinion on CD sleeve work, and several bands have used my suggestions in regard to their collective naming.

We are an extremely creative family.

May we be allowed to enjoy Threadless in our own manner?

For the record, Seamus:
I think it may be up to Threadless to decide what they will or will not publish. I appreciate the comments, but truly...unless Threadless has you on retainer, why the worries? Life it too short to wonder or write about (at some length btw, ironic for someone so busy) who may or may not sue or not sue. Obviously you are informed, but I've seen submissions that should be sued for bad taste/design alone.

In the end, this design created dialogue with folks who without it would have never shared thoughts, etc. So I guess sue my Mothra lovin' butt for that.

Again, thanks...I do mean that btw.
