early worm, or late worm?

I'm not sure what I'm looking at....

The oval makes it rather confusing... it feels as if you are looking up out of the worm's hole, but the perspective obviously is completely different.

   artdrops on Feb 13 '07
The original saying: "Early Bird Catches The Worm" (Switch the two characters and Voila! you have "Early Worm Catches The Bird" - pretty simple! :)
artdrops
   artdrops on Feb 13 '07
The oval is just a border. The scene is the worm, the bird and it's nest and the moon. You really can't have a worm hole on top of the tree.

SemantiTheft on Feb 13 '07
I understand that, which is why I said it makes it confusing. It tricks the eye. It was my way of saying maybe you should erase the border.

Cool, I love the wordplay!

Cute characters!

I like the night scenery, too with the moonlight giving great highlights!

I'd buy it!

I'd definitely say erase the border (which I thought was a worm-hole too), and add in some "ground elements" (i.e. grass/dirt/pebbles), and maybe get rid of the bird's nest and just have the tail/legs there, because why would a bird be hunting worms with its nest?

Sorry if that sounds critical, but I have to say I LOVE the idea of the design and I think you could just push it a wee bit more, and it'd be a $5

Oh. Wait. I just looked at it and the bird is on a tree branch, whoops. I think I'd like it more on the ground, looking up at the bird tied to a tree trunk, but that's just my opinion.

There's a lot of the role reversal thing on threadless. The recently printed "Rampage" select shirt for instance. Sometimes it's good. But I don't think it really makes sense that the worm would tie up the bird, and it's also difficult to tell that the bird is being tied up. I agree that the hole is confusing.

Haha, i love it!

Although i dont think you should make the worm look so malicious. I think he's just happy he got to the bird before it got to him.

   artdrops on Feb 13 '07
Wow you guys, I thought the drawing was clear but here goes:

1. The worm climbed in a tree because he caught the worm early, you know while the bird was nesting.

2. Therefore they are up in a tree and cannot see the ground.

3. It seems you are trying to reason with an obvious fictional slogan (reversed) idea that is just supposed to be fun not neccesarily strict on any conventional thought.

I agree the border may be changed but the contents inside should be easily depicted.

Thanks for the comments!

Sorry I'm a slow typer, Thanks thecoloroflove yes he's has a happy, sneeky little grin.

yvas22 on Feb 13 '07
I love the characters! Especially the the worm's eyes are so baby doll like, yet with this feisty little grin, happy of having succeeded and having caught the bird! It's funny!

The worm is also smart as it has caught the bird while it was probably still sleeping....lol.... :)

$5 for me.

By the way, I actually like the border, because it kinda depicts a fading night sky!

I like how this guy started this thread by saying his own design was awesome. I disagree but I thought it was funny.
artdrops

Of course, if you don't think your own stuff is awesomw what would be the use in doing it!

You can actually think your own stuff needs improvement and still love to learn and enjoy doing it.

I was just poking fun at the typo.

I appreciate the offer, but if needed, I would use joshua blankenship for all design work. You can check him out www.joshuablankenship.com

What's the point of making fun of a typo? To make yourself feel better? Seriously, I've never understood it.....

oh yeah, like the design $5
artdrops
   artdrops on Feb 14 '07
Petanca - it's not really anything to learn more so than it is just catering to peoples likes and dislikes with the design.

Yes, sometimes it is just about tastes, I was just talking about what you said:

Somebody needs a hug (yes, I'm looking at you taintedluvv)

Keep your psychology 101 theories to yourself...I was just being silly. I know, sarcasm, is hard to get across on paper (i.e. screen), but I was only trying to lighten it up so artdrops knew that I wasn't trying to offend. Understand that? (
BigODrummer
BigODrummer on Feb 14 '07
sarcasm again)

Anyway, the idea is great, it's the execution that needs a little help. I agree with losing the border and possibly the rain. Also, maybe rework the ropes that are binding the bird. Other than that, it's cool!
artdrops
   artdrops on Feb 14 '07
But the rain is what brings out the worms. (You see them after heavy rain, remember) And the binding is duct tape.
artdrops
   artdrops on Feb 14 '07
But I do ,now, agree about the border, it maybe a little confusing, but I'm glad you guys like the design!

I like the rain! I agree with artdrops!

The caracters are very cute!

The idea is great with the wordplay, very well thought through!

Props!

I'd definately wear it!

i don't like this design at all. maybe it would be good for kids.

i think if you need to explain your design to people then your design has failed.

artdrops
   artdrops on Feb 15 '07
Well.... everyone has their own opinions.. (I highly disagree with you) but.. oh well! I'm sure there are many that agree and disagree.

Anyway, thanks for the time it took you to express your dislike, I hope it hasn't wasted any of your time to do so. Thanks!

i think this is really cute, and i understood it right away. my only complaint... and this is gonna sound really silly... is i don't like the worm's nose. :shrugs:

OK BigODrummer, I didn't mean to sound shitty, I just took your comment the wrong way.

I like the concept, but I think there's a little too much going on here, and I think a different perspective would have worked better. I really like simple designs, but that's me. Good illustration though :)

it took awhile for my mind to make sense of what i was looking at... im not sure i'd want someone staring at my chest for that long
blueberrymoose
blueberrymoose on Feb 17 '07
Yes. I got the concept as soon as I read the title, but the bird looks too much stylistically like the worm. I'd make it cuter and more feathery, or perhaps raven or robin like? More prominent wings are a must...and I'd make the eyes totally different from those of the worm. Great idea though! The worm is adorable.

summerstorm on Feb 19 '07
I like the tape around the bird's beak so he can't even make any sound. :) I also like the worm because he reminds me of a Glo-Worm... anybody remember those? They used to glow in the dark?

P.S. I enjoy sarcasm too, artdrops.... but just so I'm not confusing, I am not being sarcastic in this comment. haha I really do like it.
