About my design
by tiglet
hope you like it, the design would wrap halfway around the back of the shirt.

all the butterflies are interesting, i would remove the white areas like how you have the top middle butterfly. Also, I'm noticing several non butterfly/moths on the bottom.

I wish the colors were more imaginative.

Less white, maybe a different color than black. Dark, but with a tint.
Also I'd probably like it better if the butterflies weren't in a diamond shape, and more scattered.

if it were centered i'd like it more

Two good movies in one design. Too bad you opted for grey and white rather than the lovely sparkling colours of life.

I love this. I'd buy it as is, but a lot of the suggestions on here are valid (i.e: more colors. Maybe try with a light yellow and a dark purple or navy, to give it more vibrancy?)

what is the significance of the shape? its seems somewhere between really structured and a general mass

I like the wrap around, but not in such a confined area, make the butterflies more random, like they're actually flying.

can't tell from the size but isn't that the death's head moth design from silence of the lambs in the center?
lauracake
lauracake on Feb 10 '07
I love it, just how it is. The way the wings are spread is like a (dead and pinned) collection, and the cluster reflects that as well. The details are amazing. I'd definitely buy as is. (I also work in a pollination biology lab, so I may be a bit biased)

I know that this a great illustration, but I would never ever wear this in my entire life. I am mortally afraid of both butterflies and moths. I can barely stand to even look at this shirt! The number of butterfly/moth posts on Threadless makes me shiver.

seems like you're wrappping it round the back for no real reason. It would work better centered.

Love the placement. Perhaps you should make the colours more vivid.

And I don't completely understand. But you get a five.

Tazl, I agree, a purple shirt would look pretty awsome, and maybe the collection of butterflies could form the shape of large butterfly, instead of kinda circle thing you got goin on. But i really like all the butterflies.moths, tis' awesome! 4

The symmetry of the design definitely lends it to a center placement. Other than that, it's also kinda boring.

There's an awful lot of dust and speckling around the images... Is this clip art?
pinup-artist
pinup-artist on Feb 15 '07
hooray for clip art butterflies! i work in an apparel company so ive seen every clipart there is. i have all these bugs in a clipart catalog.

as for people loving this design, i dont get it. its literally a bunch of clip art bugs slapped on a light blue tshirt. 1

I like the idea man, just a suggestion, if you still want to do the whole dead-pinned collectable idea, try balancing the white and black a bit more to make the bugs more visable, kinda like a science book illustration. And maybe (though it would take a shit long time) repeating it in a Vector program with lines. It would be cool too if the main stages were different colours, maybe primary, and the bugs were arranged in maybe a butterfly or moth shape? I arrage with other when I say it would be super cool on the chest... and wasn't the centre moth the one from the Silence of the Lambs artwork or is that just me? Much love here man, nearly at perfection :)

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I would love it only if the placement was centered :S
but love love the blue, still $5

You drew that picture?! I looks like a scan of a scientic journal or something - especially as you, (or someone) has painted out the reference detail with a paint tool, appearing as light grey circles where the references would be (hence the 'dust and speckling' people have picked up on), but big props to you if you did draw it! Maybe you're an illustrator for a science journal.
lauracake
lauracake on Feb 16 '07
The "silence of the lambs moth" (Acherontia atropos) also known as death's head moth or the bee robber moth is really interesting... not only is it the largest hawk moth in Europe and have a skull on its back, it is one of the only species that makes a NOISE. it's been said to sound like a wailing woman, which only adds to the morbid mystique. cool enough to be a centerpeice i think!
