An ant farm in the top half of an hour glass. A true representation of the invisible pressure of time. This image can be very depressing if you think about it too hard. But still very aesthetically pleasing and rather clever if I do say so myself.

so close to being clever, but its not.

btw. you could work on the glass and give it some glare cause right now it looks like no glass at all.

I would've liked it better if I hadn't read the designer's description.

I would move it down, further away from the collar of the shirt. It's crowding the top a little too much. I think it's a nifty idea, but this style shirt is not for me.

the glass is a problem...not glossy at all...and it looks a bit like sperms...or maybe it should ?

grypesagon on Jan 31 '07
Well, while hour glasses are typically rounded, ant farms don't tend to be. As for the "spermish" look of the tunnels... that's just how ants make thier homes. I can't control that part. :-)

Good design... the concept could be a bit more clear but I think you've executed it fairly well.

Like people have said, it could use a bit of tweaking, but it's pretty rad. I love the concept.

I think it is close to beeing really good, now it's just good, still the concept is great, maybe you could give it some more thought, maybe the anthill could be half going thrugh the hole and some ants falling down.

I thought about passing the ant hil through both sides. I also thought about putting a half collapsed tunnel in the bottom of the top and dead ants om the bottom. just didn't sit right on either idea. :-)

Wow, that would suck. I'd hate to be one of those ants.

Cool idea!

there is more sand in the bottom than would fit with the rest at the top

i agree, this is just right there, teetering on the ledge of being interesting ... but then the more i look at it the more it falls off in the wrong direction

this needs to be drawn more three dimensionally and more realistically and it would jump a point or two for my tastes. i might also have an ant looking like he is about to be sucked into the lower void of destruction. Nice idea tho but needs a little animation work before making the big leagues. I disagree with people on here that say it isn't clever or is not there yet in terms of wittiness- i think it's there in that regard. Now pretty it up! lol. 3.

Touché grypesagon, touché. You make a valid point. But the “concept” is nothing, without successful execution. Technique is as equally important as the idea itself, because if you cannot get across your idea with your technique, then even the greatest ideas would still come crashing down and never see the light of day. As an artist, when I receive criticism I expect it to be constructive. Opening up to discussion and engaging in a dialogue on what could be done to make improvements (if need be). From the looks of it, you would like that much from Brett F.’s post to the shirt that you designed: “Sinking Feeling”. And since you use to have a shirt store, I can understand why you would look at it from the angle of a “the owners” – and from a marketability aspect, I can understand your point. But I like to try and help the artist understand why their “idea” did or did not accomplish what they set out to do, so they can better hone their execution as they grow.

Despite what theurbanraptor said, i think this is clever!

I think this is a design that works well as it is, or could work just as well with some of the mentioned suggestions; making it more 3d, adding glare to make it look more glass-like. But unless you've never seen an hour glass in your life, then you know that this is one, even without amazing 3 dimensional detail!!

I think changing it so that the ants and ant hill started spilling through would unnecessarily complicate your design, and your message.

So, I feel, you don't need to do anything with this piece.. expect make it a bit smaller... but that's just my taste, not a huge fan of large designs!!

Just my opinion... keep up the awesome work!!
