MySimulation on Jan 22 '07
yay! it's up!.. thanks for the comment xiiiin.. I can always try out adding some texture to see how it looks..just afraid of it looking too busy..

sugarkitten, sorry don't know who Ziggy Stardust is.. but if looking like her is a plus then let it look like her..hehe. ;) the drawing isn't based on anyone, just drew her from scratch.

ziggy stardust isnt a her
MySimulation
MySimulation on Jan 22 '07
oops.. sorry for that! the name sounded like a her and my drawing is a female so automatically I thought ziggy was a girl.

About not knowing HIM..hehe, i dunno I guess if I don't know someone famous, most likely I'm not interested in them or what they do. Now if it's somebody I should know about, like not knowing who the president is, then I would feel pretty ashamed right about now lol..Well,Thanks for the comments so far! :-)

"if I don't know someone famous, most likely I'm not interested in them or what they do." if you don't know somebody how can you make a judgment about whether you like them? that's a very narrow-minded way of looking at things.
MySimulation
MySimulation on Jan 22 '07
thanks for the comments.. and dave, thanks for yours... you always say nice things..hehe :)

Moosedinner, I understand what you mean.. maybe I explained myself wrong, which I tend to do.. what I meant is celebrities and such.. that's why I said "famous".. to make it more clear I didn't mean "people" in general..

I'm not really a fan of any celebrity, period. If I like some music, I'll just hear it and really don't get interested in knowing anything personal about the artist itself because I simply don't like being a fan of anyone... I just see celebrities like any other stranger basically. So if they aren't interested in knowing me as a person (which it would never happen cuz they're famous, I'm not LOL), then I just won't be interested in knowing them. Not that I don't appreciate their talent, without the artists, who knows what music I'd be listening to haha.. but I simply won't be interested in knowing who they are.. so I'll forget their name once I have their song in a cd. Plus this case in specific, I searched Ziggy, and pretty much he's from the 70s and a UK artist, or so I read.. I wasn't even born yet, and I'm from the US.. so that's why I probably never heard of him at all. Now would that make me narrow-minded? I don't think anyone should be thought of that only because they're not interested in knowing about a celebrity... never did I make a judgement about whether i would like him or not.. simply I just don't have any interests in knowing about them personally.. if I get to know about them in the way, like tv, then ok.. if not then, I won't be interested in them.. I'm actually very open-minded..I love learning/trying out new things, anything that would benefit me personally (don't want to get so detailed or it would sound like a personals ad lol) and celebrities won't really benefit me in any way so I'm simply not so involved in them. That's just my view.. and it's ok if you don't agree with it.. we all have different views. I just hope that not knowing ziggy doesn't influence the voting though!.. especially since the drawing isn't even ziggy or anyone in particular... hopefully I explained myself better this time ;-)

i understand what you mean about the celebrity thing. anyways interesting art, the details are so wonderful, maybe more attention could be payed to the hair? thats my only complaint. otherwise, great work. 5

i give it $5, but like some other said, i'd like it if the hair was a little more detailed.

i'm not going to judge your design on your knowledge/ lack of knowledge about someone, but i just have to say - - - 1) please don't excuse not knowing something because "i'm from the US" - that only reinforces the stereotype of americans as self-absorbed and stupid (not saying YOU are, it's just in general it really annoys me to hear people claim ignorance due to age or being american) - - - 2) David Bowie/ Ziggy Stardust is fairly well known as an innovative and influential musican who is still recording (check out some of his songs, he has an incredible voice... and i'm sure you'll recognize some of his songs once you hear them), and as an actor (i dare say you'll find many 20-somethings on this board are Labyrinth fans at the very least) - - - 3) i have to disagree with your philosophy towards music - if you like one song you should check out the rest of the band/performers catalog - you might be surprised what you find - it is possible to enjoy the music without idolizing the performer - you can also find links to "similar artists" or "artists inspired by __" which can significantly broaden your musical horizons - - - try someplace like http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll

rudra, 1.I agree with what you say about the american thing.. I myself get annoyed by it when I see it... I just mentioned it because this artist seems to be known mostly in the UK.. since he originated from there..and the US, atleast from what i've seen, don't mention him as they do with other celebrities which are from the US.. .. I'm not even considered american myself.. since I wasn't even born here.. the same thing applies to all countries though.. not only the US... I live in Miami, and we got people from all over the world so i've seen it done constantly.. i can even say all of us have stereotyped before and sometimes haven't noticed that we've done it... just some do it alot more than others! lol.. That's why it's better when we just see people as individuals.

2. I have heard of David Bowie! lol.... I didn't know he was known as Ziggy Stardust though.. maybe if this was mentioned earlier I wouldn't have had this discussion.. That's where my "I'm not interested in knowing about celebrities" kicks in..LOL.

3. agreed also! If I like a song of an artist I like, I would check out their other songs.. but never would I read their biography or anything because I'd be interested in just their "Music", not them as a person, because again, I just am not interested in knowing about someone that I would never meet in person and doesn't have a clue of who I am. It's ok if i learn it in the way (tv, magazines, books, word of mouth).. but I wouldn't be so involved as to take the initiative to learn about them. In this case, I just happened to learn about Ziggy now. So I guess I got something out of this discussion.. :-)Hmm.. think everything is more cleared up.. so that said.. plz, plz, plz.. can I hear comments on the design itself from now on? Don't want to sound rude or anything.. I just don't want to focus on this celebrities discussion because if I get soo into it, then we'll all start pointing out our personal views, which we might dissagree on (mostly dissagry with me cuz I know not many think like me lol), which might then influence with the scoring if you even end up scoring it because we focused on the celebrities discussion lol. Don't wanna miss out on feedback of the design itself..which this suppose to be about. so hope you guys understand. Thanks! :-)

Ok, back to the design, thanks for the feedback.. I'll definitely try to work on the hair a bit and I'll post up the changes. hopefully that improves it. Any preference on image size and t-shirt color?

oh boy, things can get very complicated here - but well done for trying to answer all the comments ! :-)

For me, I prefer the slightly smaller (blue) placement, but that tone of blue just dulls the design. I reckon a darker Pacific Blue would give it abit more contrast.

Anyway, nice illustration !

abbster,

the Josh Ritter contest has been viewed totally different depending on the individual because the theme "The Animal Years" isn't really specific and so many have a different view of what "The Animal Years" can be... that's why we see a variety of subs.

But, my personal intention on this was based on what Josh Ritter said himself --- "I was thinking back on the period of my life leading up to this record and my experience up to that point was, you get up, you start to play music and you tour. It's such a strange life style. In a lot of ways I felt like I became this thing, half-man, half-animal, out in the middle of the country, playing. It was so bizarre. Everyone else is living their lives and doing things that are bit more normal … I became the proto-hunter-gatherer.."

Basically I tried to show that here... this design clearly represents a face of half-human half-bird..why?..because What better than a bird to represent what Jitter said? Birds play music as a lifestyle and migrate from one place to the other when needed. They also hunt and gather food. And as he mentioned he felt as if he was some type of half-man half-animal so that explains on why I created this bird looking person.. yet tried to keep the face from looking too beast like since he just said he FELT like half-man half-animal so I had to make the human features alot stronger so it wouldn't be just an animal..hehe. Don't know if you see what I see, but It's ok if you don't.. it's just my personal view portrayed through a drawing.. that's why you might not see what i see, so no need to say sorry :)

Ooh dear look at all this debating, ok to the art work, something needs to be done with either the hair being stronger or the bold outline on the face that tiny bit softer to draw it all together. personally i think a touch adjustment to both would just finish it off perfectly!

spunky_laura on Jan 24 '07
Oooh, I'd buy this!! But I agree the flame hair needs more detail like the rest of the face and flower-things.

And what about a pink or light purple tee for the girly version (but still keep the white bits on the cheek and flowers) ?

It looks great but how about another color scheme? A good design is done in a color a great design can be done in any color. How about a red/orange color scheme on a blue shirt? I think a contrasting color scheme would work even more.... I would buy it!
