I think your talent is evident, but the "pervert" concept is something that I don't think any Threadless buyer is going to want to project.

I think I've mis-judged the American audience. A 'Perv' in the UK isn't seen as such a 'strong' term. It's a bit of a joke in England really. I'll probably get some printed up here through my own means. A fair few people love the design over here. Cheers to anyone who saw the funny side. The rest of you..... learn how to relax.

it's not just not funny, it's also quite unsightly.

It's really concidered normal for someone to walk around anywhere with a visible penis on thier shirt?

Don't judge the American audience on 6 people on this site. "Perv" over here is still a joke to people that have a sense of humor about sex and bodies (which is all of us really). A lot of people here have lofty notions about their doodles and want to believe Threadless is some sort of pretentious gallery for talent and wit.

I like the joke. But the art is too big IMHO.

It's often a good idea to do some research on hidden meanings if your *main* audience is from a another culture.

Just to clear up some more of the comments.

Travioli: I don't understand why you mention a VISIBLE penis. My little Perv character is wearing a thong. That and it's a doodle cartoon. Is it really that offensive?

OnDrawnWings: "I THINK I've mis-judged..." I thought the negative reactions were based on a culture clash. I'm glad you've proved me wrong. And I'm glad I'm not the only one here who's getting a horrible notion that Threadless appears to have a 'sensible' majority. Again, I'm not saying it as fact, I've just noticed a lot of comments, (on many of the submissions) from that mindset. Anyway, I'm glad you like it.

IamMusic: Well, I'm getting very conflicting comments, so I guess it's very difficult to judge/gage a culture. I understand now that I'm not contending with an American culture, but more of a Threadless culture, (or at least the opinions/tastes of the majority).

Staffell: Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Yep, you got that part that Threadless audience is very 'sensible' completely right. In my opinion people here tend to get way too sensible, by the way. Lots of kids here too, so the comment 'could never wear it' is pretty often too. I really like it, I could wear it even to work and I'd buy it if it was for sale. And I think it's hilarious. But keep the humor, and keep it coming. Some of us still have some sense of humor.

ma17^ for your information, I DO have a sense of humor and so do the other people who have made comments against this submission. I don't think this design is bad, it doesn't appeal to me, but that's just my opinion and I am intitled to it just like you are to your's. But I think it's wrong to say that people who don't like a certain design have no sense of humor.

Travioli is right. This is just a stupid design. I think a lot of people forget that these designs are for shirts, which people wear. Why anybody would want to display this on their body for all to see is beyond me. British humour isn't very different from American humour. I know a lot of British people like to think that they're much better than Americans, but that's not the way it is. Our cultures are not that different.

On another note, "pervert" is not a sensitive term over here, but it's not a funny or cute one. I'm sure about the same amount of Europeans wouldn't like this design either.

I like it. I'm from Melbourne (Australia) and we use the word 'perv' in this sense:

to look at someone in a sexual way as in: "I was perving at this chick's arse and she caught me."

It is not a rude word by any means.

I know CopyPasteRepeat used it as short for 'pervert' but its still not rude. For the people who disliked it or were shocked: good for you.

My guess is, people in Melbourne would laugh or even chortle, maybe guffaw but titter is definitely out of the question.

Baron Von Aaron: "British humour isn't very different from American humour". In Australia we get both cultures' comedies and they are quite different. This is a common conception about English-based cultures; that we all speak english etc. therefore our cultures aren't that different. This devalues them in my view. Note: I am basing my knowledge of the American culture on their media. Having only been to L.A for 10 days in 1991.

Conflicting view points from everyone here. It's good to see. It does unfortunately undermine Baron von Aaron's sweeping statements, (especially when the next comment below is "I love it."). I don't mean to single you out, but at 16 you appear to have some very strong opinions, (written as facts) about a subject that no one can truly measure. Macgruder, you appear to have added a great new feature to my design, haha. Again, thanks everyone for commenting.

@Davoid: I have lived all over the U.S. as well as England. I wasn't citing the fact that both are english speaking nations as the reason we have a similar sense of humour. I stated that because it's simply the truth.

@CopyPasteRepeat: Opinions are just that. Opinions. What does it matter if I'm 5, 16, 34, 75, or 104?
CopyPasteRepeat
CopyPasteRepeat on Jan 11 '07
I only mentioned your age because such strong opinions usually come from people who have had a little bit more life experience. Age and experience aside, your opinions are still very extreme especially about something that can't be measured in anyway. Not that it really matters, but I believe that English and American humor are very different. At first I thought this might be the reason for a lot of the negative reactions to my design. Others have since explained that it could be more of a Threadless culture rather than an American culture. And I can see that now. Nevermind.
