About my design

by the-moon-unit
Inspired by a radio article i heard on anti depressants and there over use. Doctors and patients who seek out pills for a quick fix instead of going through a less drastic means, this extends into many areas of medical practice such as weight loss. The anti-depression pill anecdote that really drove it home was a girl told was how her mother was on the same drug for bipola that her friend suffering from no actual mental illness was on for breaking up with her boyfriend.

It inspired this image.

On a side note the colours vary slightly in the thumbnail vs the large image because the thumbnail is the LCD screen variant and the large image colour corrected from that for a CRT monitor which is what print actually looks like.

I like the concept... really deep. Would look good on a black Tee too...

We can not be happy all the time that is the problem no one seems to realize that. I don't like the font though.

I think the concept could be conveyed without the text

I like the font. Simple and effective. It's one of those that might get the "No text necessary!!!" comments, but thats because you explained the whole damn thing here.

SoCoDivka on Dec 27 '06
Eh, I disagree with the concept. Yeah, they're overused, but some people really do need them and I think this tee belittles that and adds to the stigma.

I think it would be more profound without the text, however that being said I think this is the best shirt trying to convey a message I've seen on this site, especially because this is something I feel strongly about. $5 (although it really would be better wordless).

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. To adress some points being said:

The " ' " was left out for purely aesthetic reasons, it looked odd amongst the really strong blocky font, however i probably should have just played around and vectored a better one. I know grammar or lack thereof can annoy some people quite a lot.

The text itself was mostly there to highlight the certain words, I'd never actually considered doing it without it so thanks for the thoughts people (it might come back again without the text, not too sure on threadless policy there).

The design was never meant to belittle those who actually do need it, i hope ive offended no one. Infact it was more about how it cheapens the desires of those that do who are surrounded by users that dont.

Thanks for all your kind words and criticisms.

I like how it portrays the meaning well; and I like the meaning portrayed. Nice!

i think if you kept the text on the bottles but not the other text it would be better, leaves more up to the viewer. The fact that hope is open while love and happiness are not implies that it's more important, or that you need more hope than you do the rest, or that you already have enough love and happiness, so each person can attribute their own meaning. Other than that, interesting design.

I usually hate people who say this, but I really don't like the text. It would be super cool without it.

yeah, ditto. Nice concept, the text over-explains it. maybe one less bottle on the left, it might be a bit cluttered

Nice concept, I have in mind something similar to sub in the future. I agree that graphism could be more appealing, maybe it's just a matter of color scheme.

This is one of those really nice designs that just kind of gets ruined with the explanatory text. Advertising classes tell you that an image should be obvious and powerful enough to stand alone. A curious image and some text as icing on the cake work well too, but I don't think that's the case here.

I dont think you need a caption under the bottles... they're self-explainitory. Perhaps make the caption on the shirt the title of it.
