I don't think without the sun it loks disperse at all, actually I think it would make the mountain and woman stick out more strongly.

I agree with the other people. This would get a 5$... but I don't think it belongs in the Dec.'s category. But I'm so torn, because I absolutely love this sub!!!

I agree it doesn't fit in this catagory but I had originally made it for this contest and in the first versionof it, there was a strong tie to the myth of the crane wife, but this version doesn't show a lot of those remains. I still felt tho since it was spawned from the contest info I would submit it as such.

I like the design but the woman...she has a fairly young face but she looks crippled. I'll buy it on Dakota Slate - $5 from me :)

valorandvellum on Dec 14 '06 I think people need to keep in mind that the theme song for the decemberists is based on a Japanese story... so it does fit the theme in a more abstract way.

The woman is very nicely done, but the Sun and mt. Fuji seem to be from a different image, as they're a completely different style. I don't like the 80's malibu sun or it's colour. Also the dark blue doesn't somehow fit the rest of the colours, maybe a bit more "broken" shade? But as I said, the woman is really very good.

I will look into changing the sun if it doesn't win, but actually all of the images I used as reference were from actual 1920's japanese folk art, advertisements, etc. Keep the comments coming.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the contest theme The Island? And while it is on the Crane Wife album, has no relation to the story of the crane wife. A recreation of The Tempest would have been more appropriate to the theme.
