'coin' is the French onomatopoeia for Quack.

this is like the third french sub I've rated today. And I don't speak french! Frustrating... and the coin thing definitely doesn't work

Peppermont on Dec 12 '06
Heh, it's cute. I like it better with "coin" (took me so long in french class to realize to say it "kwaahn") but it might be more successful with "quack" or similar. Very cute though =)

I love it! Those five semesters of french torture finally paid off. However, I do think that it would be better if it wasn't language specific. I like the idea of using a name like "Colin." C'est tres mignon! J'aime beaucoup le petit canard!

the frenchness would explain the "stupide." cute though.

i like it, but i don't dig the french. maybe he could be making a noise instead, something to indicate his confusion. cute design, though. love dumb ducklings. like the lil guy from tom & jerry :)

The Ending
The Ending on Dec 13 '06
colin is just someones name. It would suggest the duck is mistaking the cap for another duck with the name colin. which is funny!

i wish that it said colin rather than coin. . . it would be cool if you got another animal with french subtitles that didn't sound like an eng word.

ducks cannot make an 'n' sound. if a duck could make an n sound, you couldnt consider it retarded.

Ralfinatorpuggy on Dec 13 '06
yeah, i think the coin should be changed to something else, only because most people don't know that it stands for quack. i was thinking it meant coin as in change. other than that, i'd buy it.
babbidollmo126
babbidollmo126 on Dec 13 '06
coin is the word for quack in french, also hence the "stupide"
lol sorry if i sounded bitchy, just trying to tell people.
Also its adorable i would deff buy it

ivegotnothing on Dec 13 '06
maybe just something to denote he's french?? i don't like "quack." There's hardly any way to accurately write in any language what they "say" unless they perfect duck sound happens to appear in a language... which I doubt it does. anyway, the "ck" and the "n" just signal the quick termination of the vowel sound; "t" works just as well. anyway..

If he said "coin" to a beret, maybe it would work. What about something like "mommy?"
split26
split26 on Dec 14 '06
coin is the french approximation of a duck sound...but you don't pronounce it like the english word coin...peppermont's comment up above best describes how to say it

ps. i enjoy the french, keep it!

Change the "coin" or "quack" or whatever to a question mark. Surely the le patu (sp?) has to be confused!

on first glance it looked like 'colin' to me, which i thought was funny. as The Ending said, the duck mistaking the cap for another duck, a friend called colin perhaps, is funny.

Honestly I thought it was a very cute non-sequitor when I assumed the duck was trying to understand the hat in terms of metal coins, which it obviously isn't familiar with either. Reminds me of how a young child hears a new word and fails hilariously to express themselves with it. It might work to change what the duck is saying to some other monosyllabic word that the duck couldn't possibly understand either, like "phone?" or "coat?". A duck saying quack just doesn't do it for me, its not nearly as thought provoking.
L337Cthulhu

I like the idea of it saying "Bill?" just because then it might think it saw an old friend in the bill of that hat.

haha I like the concept! but I didn't get the 'coin' part until I read the comments! It could be a good conversation starter! lol

meh i wouldnt do french. quack maybe. but you need something universal, like a symbol or something. maybe a name?
personally i'm in a funny mood so all i want to see is it humping the hat.

defenitely keep the coin line but if people insist on knowing what what it means then just put and asktrisk at the end of the word and a line of text at the bottom or the back that explains it...but then it wouldnt be funny

my roommate minored in french, she would love this shirt. I am imagining her saying "qua!" (that's how I heard it). Which she did recently, and explained it was french for "quack."

I love it, the confusion over the language goes well with the duck's confusion. It's like the duck is saying "huh?" or "what?" or "hey!" or "hwa?" or all of the above. Very cute!
andre p
andre p on Dec 18 '06
This shirt is so much funnier if it reads "Colin?" as it makes the duck think that the hat is a person. With "Coin?" it's just a confused duck. Make it Colin, pleeeease? Also, "coin" is pronounced surprisingly similarly to "quack". It's sort of like..."Quan"...but you don't say the N. Meh, I'm doing my best here.
